Chocolate Covered Pretzels

We are using chocolate covered pretzels for our favors.  I was playing on going to Sam's and buying them as I've seen them there before for the holidays.  Well, they have all their holiday stuff in (at least a lot of it) and there are no pretzels.  Anyone have another suggestion where we could buy some - and in bulk?  I thought Sam's would be reasonable.

Re: Chocolate Covered Pretzels

• Make them. Melt chocolate (I prefer milk chocolate), and dip 1/2 a pretzel in, let cool and set on parchment paper, and voila! Probably cheaper, too. I like the look of 1/2 dipped also.

• Can you just make them? They last forever, and they're super easy to make. You could even use white chocolate and dye it to match your colors. I'm no help with buying them.

• P2 read my mind.... great idea.

• Do you think if we made them we'd be able to tie in our red/black color scheme?  Sprinkles?  Etc???
• I think you could!
• I would dip them all in white chocolate (which is not too difficult) and then do half the batch in red sprinkles and half the batch in black sprinkles. But use the sugar crystal sprinkles; the other ones aren't as nice looking. Be sure to sprinkle before the chocolate hardens. Maybe this can be a group project.
• chocolate is going to look very dark in a reception hall. Or use white chocolate and dye it red.

• You could also use a colored ribbon to tie wrapping over them to incorporate your colors.
• I vote for making them as well! My mom just made 300 of them for our out of town bags (10 for each bag). Michaels sells all different colors of melting chocolate so she broke pretzel rods in half, dipped them in chocolate and then drizzeld the colors on top. (Just melt the chocolate in a zip lock bag and cut a tiny bit of one corner off and you can easily drizzle another color on top) it's really, really easy.
• You could drizzle white chocolate with red food coloring in it.  Also, remember that double boilers are best for chocolate.

• Or along with what everyone else said, you can buy the red chocolate and dip them completely in red...
• Do you have a World Market anywhere near you?  They usually have big buckets of chocolate covered pretzels.

• You can melt bowls of chocolate in the microwave, just be sure to stir the chocolate around every 10-15 seconds. If you're using white chocolate, I would suggest stirring every 10 seconds. It tends to burn a lot faster. I've never used a double boiler, I'm too lazy. :) But I make chocolate peanut butter cups. If you have a bulk barn around, they sell chunks of lindt chocolate.

• We did homemade chocolate covered pretzels as our favors! Use big pretzels, and Wilton's milk chocolate candy pieces. Melt them in the microwave until they are still a little bit lumpy (do 30 second intervals). You can dip them fully, lay on wax paper, and then either top with sprinkles or drizzle with another color. They dry in an hour or two, then you can put them in glassine bags. We used cellophane bags from michaels and staples a little paper message on top. (wish I had a pic, they are at home).
• ac_in_dc...I'd love to see a pic!  Thanks! I was thinking of putting a sticker on them...maybe the staple idea would be better.
• I'm sure lindt & other chocolates are very tasty, but the Wilton stuff is really easy to work with. If you use candy-making chocolate it holds up once dry without melting or anything.
• OK, I'll post one tonight.
• two of my sisters & I made these in 3 hours on the Wednesday before our wedding. I think all the materials cost her like $40 or something? We made 120.
• Make them - it's MUCH cheaper than buying them. We made 110 large choc covered pretzels for less than $50. If you want to email me at knottieggmae at gmail dot com, I can tell you how we made them and what supplies we needed.

• How far in advance can they be made?
