***Kate***

To answer your question, yes. Most likely. We might move to Europe or the States for work at some point, but it would be a year or two deal. This is where we're planning on raising our family. Looks like I'm going to be here for the long haul ;)

Re: ***Kate***

  • That's really neat.  Will you raise kids bilingually?  I ask because one of my good friends (she's American) just married a guy from Uruguay, and they conduct their relationship almost entirely in Spanish.  I have always thought it was cool, but I'm not sure what their plans are kid-wise.
  • I assume that your friend's husband doesn't speak English? Luckily, my DH is bilingual, and I am too. The kids will be raised in both languages, for two reasons: I can't imagine NOT speaking to my kids in my native language, and speaking both languages is a given here. Anyone who can afford it sends their kids to bilingual schools. So our kids will learn English and Spanish at home and in school.
  • He does speak English, but for whatever reason they just usually speak Spanish.  I think because she studied abroad there, it's maybe something special added to the relationship.    Now if only FI and I were unique...I'm fluent in French but I don't think that would mesh well with his Texan drawl!
  • :butting in:He does speak English, but for whatever reason they just usually speak Spanish.Any bilingual family I know speaks the "foreign" language so that the children will learn it. They speak/read/write English in school so the more exposure they get to the home language, the better. I used to be 100% fluent, but as I went through school, etc, I lost some of it. We'll be speaking mostly Vietnamese at home when we start our family just so that our kids know the language. I think it's sad when people grow up "Americanized" and forget how to speak!:butting out:
  • Aw, Kate...C'mon:  "parleezzz vouzzz fransezzzzz????? (in a drawl) and yes, I know it's spelled wrong; I tried to spell it in "Texanese"My folks live in a DFW suburb - I like it there.  Surprisingly, moving to Iowa DID put me closer to them!

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Buttaflai - In our case we live in Mexico, so if we don't speak English to them they could grow up all "Mexicanized" ;)
  • Buttaflai -- definitely makes sense.  PS, did you see my little shout out to you yesterday in the love thread? Missy -- He is pretty cute when he tries the few words he knows!  My in-laws live in Burleson.  Do you know of it?
  • Exactly, expat, haha. That's what I mean, the language not prevalent in the country. That's good though. I feel like I need to re-learn again since I've forgotten a lot. No I didn't, kate. Just found it! Thank you, that was very sweet. I'm glad I didn't waste my time with the site to help at least one person.
  • Definitely not a waste!  You had a beautiful wedding.
