A map that shows where the registered sex offenders are in my area? I googled it but I am not finding what I need. All I see is ways to look up an individual I 'think' is an offender.

Really? My work blocks EVERYTHING and I got it to pull up. Also, there are no registered pervs in my neighborhood. I live directly behind an elementary school, which helps cut down on that sort of thing.  There are a LOT on the other, "shady", side of town, however.

Try google.  I can get an Illinois registry by googling, 'Illinois Sex Offender Registry.'  Your state probably has its own site as well.

Sure, there are some, but not all."Agreed Fischey.  Some states consider stuff like urinating in public a sex offense, which I think is stupid.  It takes away from the seriousness of real sex offenders.But it is good to know that I have no sex offenders living in my apartment building. Hurray!

fishy, I know not all registered sex offenders are "pervs", but I've researched my area before, and a lot of them are people to be afraid of. I didn't mean to generalize.

Or kids who are orchestrated by adults to commit offenses and then have to register for 15 yearss?Or 14 year olds who have sex with their 12 year old girlfriend consensually and have to register for 15 years because the parents find out?Or kids who were victimized and don't understand right or wrong and have to register for 15 years? Seriously, don't get me started.

I know in some cases people have gotten put on there at age 18 for having sex with their 17 year old g/f if they want to get "revenge" after a breakup.  And guys and girls under 18 who are found to have naked pictures of themselves because it's considered child porn.

Fish - I *think* family watch dog also lists what they were convicted of, i.e. rape of a minor vs. exposing oneself to someone under age 16, vs. statutory rape (sometimes, but not always, with a girlfriend who is underage when you get on the wrong side of her parents). Which lets you view the circumstances a bit. Not all, but a bit.

Not to mention that it was just added due to Adam Walsh, that sending OR RECEIVING any sort of sexting message or picture from a minor is grounds for registration. Whether people ask for the picture or not. Tell your nieces, nephews, sons, and daughters. One sexting message could equal 15 years mandatory registration.

The illinois site lists what they person did and also the age of the victim and the offender at the time.  I fully acknowledge that not all people listed in the database are dirty, that's why I check to see the actual crime.

Absolutely do they have to register. 15 years minium. And they have to tell their communities, their schools, places of employment, etc. Think they can live on a college campus? Heck no.

whoa whoa whoa.... I'm not about to go on a witch hunt in my neighborhood or anything. I just saw something on abc news with dots all over it, which made me think of Knocked Up, then thought about how none of the kids around us go trick-or treating in our neighborhood,  and then reminded me we have a serial rapist in the area right now.I'm not trying to start anything.

I think watchdog just denotes if it's a home or work address. Maybe it depends on the state.

Your State Police should have a Megan's Law link on their website that allows you to search.That being said, listen to Fish.  She is wise.

I know you weren't trying to start anything, Atobias. I just really urge people to know what it is they are dealing with instead of blanketing a group of people because of a charge they have been convicted for. People need to be educated about their area and the people in their area. That is responsible, for sure. And it is important to do that. But grouping every sex offender into the same group isn't fair.

okay cool. And I agree with that. It's honestly something I never thought about though, the different reasons one might be on the list. I said the other day in the nice statements thread that you give me stuff to chew on while not knotting. This is an example, so thank you.
