Taconic accident

Have any of you heard about the car accident from a month or so ago in NY on the Taconic Prkway? It was on Oprah today and is on the new again. I guess the mom was driving a bunch of kids, got in the accident and everyone died except one little boy. She hit another car as well that killed 3...so total 7 are dead.The toxicology report came back and said she was drunk and had smoked pot. Husband insists this has to be a mistake as he has never even seen her drunk. What are your thought?(This may be a post and run, I have to go to brooklyn and play a concert)

I remember this story, and I felt so terrible for the family.  But, obviously the husband is in a major state of denial.   Besides the toxicology reports, they also found a broken bottle of liquor in her vehicle.

On Oprah the investigator hired by the family was trying to say she brought the vodka back and forth from their cabin to their home because she was frugal.Part of me wishes this would all just be done being talked about. I feel so sad for the family...but I think the family of the car she hit wants the answers and I can't blaim them either.

Someone on here (I can't remember who) knows these people and so this has been discussed at length.  I think it's sad.

There was a poster here who was close to the family - or her friend/sister was close to the family. At the time, they were under the belief that the mother had a medical condition that led to the accident. Either way, I suspected booze/drugs from the beginning. It's not a surprise.

I think this family must be in serious denial.  Or the coraner messed up royally and the police is trying to hide something.

I believe punkyb2b was the knottie whose sister was the girls' mom's(the driver's SIL, I think) BFF. I thought the toxicology report already came out and said that? Honestly, she should have never gotten in that car. As a survivor, I would be extremely angry with her for taking all those children's lives.

I think the family had requested a second tox report or something. I think DUI in general is extremely irresponsible, but with children in the car is inexcusable.

i know the family says it was caused by a medical condition, but i believe the tox reports.

There was actually in article in People about this in the issue I got Saturday. It was a long piece on the pressures of methods, and how more and more moms are closet alcoholics/drug addicts (as in, taking their kids Ritalin, not like coke). The article supposed maybe that's what was up with the mom in the Taconic story.
