Addressing Save the Dates

For save the dates since they're not formal, can I address them by first name or do I need to do Mr. & Mrs.?  If it's a family can I just do The Smith Family (obviously I'm not going to do the invites this way but the save the dates aren't formal).  Also, since again not formal, I was going to print out on clear labels the return address.  Is that ok?

Re: Addressing Save the Dates

  • If you're having a kid-free wedding, then don't address them to the Smith family. I don't know about formality issues, etc., but address the save the dates to only those who are actually invited.

  • I suppose you don't have to be as formal, if you are going to print I'd do it directly on the envelope instead of using labels.

  • The formality of the STD really should match the formality of your wedding.  If you go casual on the wording and addressing for the STD and formal for the invitation, it's technically not right and confusing to the guests.   If you're inviting children, name them.  You need the names anyway and it's important just in case you happen to come across a guest who thinks 'and family' means the MIL just a few blocks away.   Please don't use labels.
  • It is a kid friendly wedding.  The return address is going on the envelope flap so on the back.  I have long skinny envelopes and the flap is on the side rather than on the top.
  • If you can't get the names on the front then write them on a card you insert.
  • I'm sending mine out this week and just finished affixing return address labels to them. I had no idea I was supposed to write them out instead. Is this really bad? For the invites I'm getting a calligrapher but I thought this was fine for STDs....
  • We addressed all of the invites, no labels, no family, and all Mr. and Mrs. with everything spelt out.  Thanks for your help!  If I can figure out how to work the profile, I will post a picture :)
  • Oops i meant we addressed all of the STD.
