Please critique my DIY (xp)

Hi ladies! I put together my unity candle and card box today and am worried that they look cheesy. Any advice or validation would be appreciated.

Re: Please critique my DIY (xp)

• Very cute! Can you slide your ribbon to the edge of the vellum (top and bottom) so you don't see the seam through it?I like the ribbon wound through the cardbox, but not sure if I'm a fan of the dangling ribbon curls.

• Anna, I love you, but I'm afraid this reminds me a little too much of christmas. Unless you're having a christmas wedding, I would want to reduce the amount of green glitter ribbon.
• I think there's a bit too much green ribbon. I think you could just put a bow on top of the cage, and a thin green line (the one that's already there) around the monogram, and that'd be enough.

• Ditto sun. It's gorgeous, but very Christmas-y.
• sun: It's a full out christmas wedding.  Red and green, christmas trees and a cake that looks like stacked presents.
• I happen to like it! But I'm pretty easy to please.

• pink: i was worried about that myself.  I had it with less but wasn't sure
• I like the card box.I might have used non-glitter puff paint on the candle, but people won't be looking at it close up (I assume it will be on an altar-type thing) so I think it looks fine. The design is really pretty.

• I think this is a case where "less is more" would apply.  Just a bit less ribbon.  If it were me, I would take the bow and the piece wound through the domed top off & see what that looks like.  Also - what color is the birdcage, exactly?  I'm not sure if my monitor is showing it accurately.

• Well in that case, it is good! ;P I too would remove the dangling ribbon on the cage, and possibly do a smaller white ribbon on the top there where you've got the threaded green which looks a little oversized for that section of the cage. I'd also consider doing layered green and white ribbons on the candle rather than the glitter one, but that's just me.
• If you're going to have lots of other Christmas going on, I think I like it! Now I want to see this cake :)
• The birdcage is a distressed bronze.Yeah, I'm was/am really not sure about the extra ribbon.  It looked terribly plain withoout the bow on top.  I might have to remove the upper and lowest ribbon.  I don't want it to look cheesy
• Kate: something similar to this but buttercream icing and fondant for just the bows
• Too much ribbon for my liking.  That is a beautiful cage, I don't think it needs anything added to it.

• agree mandy.  I love the cage.  It's going to have a flowering houseplant in it after the wedding. With less ribbon.  better?
• Yes, that's much better.  MUCH.  And, the birdcage no longer looks olive green in that photo, which is also much better.  Any way to maybe smooth out the curly part of the ribbon?

• easily.  it's wire edged ribbon. Thanks for the help guys.  I didn't want to be one on THOSE people.  You know, the chick that honestly thinks her stuff looks hot even though it's a hot mess.
• Sometimes you look at DIY projects for so long you can't really see them anymore.  I have that problem sometimes, anyway.  And then I have to call in friends for opinions, or at least walk away for a day or so.  Thus far, I've only done paper stuff.  I'm sure I'll have similar posts when I get started on all the other stuff.

• I think it looks so much better with less ribbon.
• Nope, no time at all 45 days left and hopefully I'll have a job taking up my time soon.   Thanks navy!
• For the candle, it would look "OK" as is. But the glittery green ribbon seems a little busy or distracting. The ribbon itself is a pretty design, but the glitter is a little too much. Maybe glue a simple but decorative trim border around the lable? Like a subtle metallic braid trim. I love the birdcage, but it looks like a bag of ribbon exploded in there, lol! It's so busy and distracitng you can't see that pretty birdcage. Can you leave off all the interwoven ribbon, and leave only the cascading bow on the top? If you need the ribbon to keep the cards from falling out, could you line the birdcage with some sheer organza material instead of the patterned ribbon? Kind of like a see through bag inside the birdcage, with an opening for the door or place to insert the cards.
• Oh, I just saw the second picture of the birdcage with less ribbon. MUCH better!
