Quick question RE: addressing thank you cards

Do I have to hand-write the address on the front of the envelope? Is printing on the envelopes or using labels considered tacky?I think printed address labels would look so much better than my handwriting.

Re: Quick question RE: addressing thank you cards

  • You're not supposed to do this, etiquette-wise. You could cheat and print the addresses in really light ink and trace over them in your own handwriting.
  • I think hand-written or caligraphy is always more appreciated...that being said, I never notice if my address is hand-written, caligraphy, or a label. But there are several people that do.
  • I think labels look sloppy.  Is it possible to print the addresses directly onto the envelope?

  • Great idea about tracing over the light print! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks :)
  • gkb - That was the other option I was considering. I just wasn't sure if it was proper.
  • I don't know if it's proper, but I think it'd look nicer than labels.  Either print over the light font or print on the envelopes.  I think either would be fine.

  • I figure if I took the time to write a wedding check or to buy and gift and come to the wedding, the bride should have time to hand write my name. Sorry to be such a pick snit, but I just received a thank you note with an address label. Although it's better than not receiving a thank you at all, I thought the bride (who doesn't work, by the way) was lazy.
  • cjohnson - I fully intend to write very thoughtful, hand written notes inside of the cards. I write beautiful cursive, however my printing is just a mess which is why I think I'm going to go with printing the addresses on the envelopes. It has nothing to do with lazy. It will actually take more time to print them on the computer than it would for me to hand write them. Thanks for your input though. I appreciate all opinions.
