Would you rather have a fake pumpkin from Michael's to carve, so you could keep it. Or would you rather use a real pumpkin so you can play in the gunk, but have to throw it away in a week?I am going to work in about an hour. So, which should I bring?

I'd rather have a fake one, but I have a strange fear of pumpkin guts. To this day I can't carve a pumpkin without practically barfing the whole time.

A real pumpkin hands down.Although I have this very organized OCD-type nephew. I carved a pumpkin with him when he was a toddler and he couldn't stand the gunk. To each his own, I guess...

I carved pumpkins with my 3 year old nephew last weekend and he loved playing with the gunk.  Kids don't care about keeping things, they will lose interest in a week anyway.  I'd give them the real experience.

Real pumpkin.  Plus, you can toast the seeds after you get all the goo out.  Toasted pumpkin seeds are delish.  And goo is fun for a three year old.

Should have clarified- I will be carving. We had a really looong session yesterday, so I promised him something fun for today.I think I will go with the real pumpkin, gunk is fun, and pumpkin seeds are great.

Definitely real.  By the time it's good to throw away, he should be over the pumpkin-excitement and probably won't mind so much.

Thanks ladies! This saves me from going to Michaels. Plus, we have been working with textile things all week, so I can pretend this is educational.

Real... but since I wouldn't be allowed to have a knife I would use the pumpkin things that are like the mr potato head pieces.   they are pretty cool and no knives involved.
