Are you supposed to give gifts when you attend an engagement party?

Re: Engagement Party

  • It's not absolutely necessary, but if you do want to take something along, a nice bottle of wine or restaurant gift card would make a good present. :)

  • not where I'm from
  • I would usually give a present at an engagement party.  How big would depend on how close I was to the couple.
  • Your bio says you life in Long Island, so yes.Engagment parties are weird that way as it really depends on your area.  Northwest, no.  Mid america, not so much, NY & NJ, absolutely. They really should be just small gifts though.  A nice picture frame, a wedding planner, candles, plant, the hostess gift sort of stuff.
  • a bottle of wine and a card would be my guess.

  • Depends on your crowd. In my area (friends and family), yes we give gifts. But they're not the small ones OOT referenced -- we give registry gifts (typically china, silver, or crystal). FWIW, we give the same gift for an engagement whether there's a party or not.
