  • I have Garmin. It has always done well for me!
  • I bought my dad a garmin for Christmas last year and the man loves it. My friend has a basic tom tom and I have to say I don't like it as much.
  • What are the model numbers, if you know?
  • I bought FI a Garmin for Christmas and he adores it.  I researched GPS devices for about a month before I bought it.  Try Amazon, they're all much cheaper there.
  • I really wanted one, but DH said to use VZ Navigator on our cell phones...and I think it works really well!!

  • I got my sister a Tom Tom last christmas. She's technically inept and prone to breaking anything with an on/off switch. She loves it and it's still alive, so that's saying something.

  • I bought DH a Garmin nuvi 265 WT for his birthday. We love that it tells you the name of the street, rather than just "turn left in 15 feet." Con: if you're on a curvy road, it seems to think you're off course and says "recalculating" about 1394745 times. We just turn the volume off.

  • Oh, and I'm not sure of the model, but it was about $100 at best buy. Her H had just joined the airforce so she used it to drive cross country, it worked perfectly.

  • I bought FI a Garmin 700 series for Christmas last year. We like it quite a bit. We had a few rental car GPSs before I bought it and the Garmin ones were always nice.

  • I have a Garmin that I got for Christmas about 2 years ago.  I absolutely love it, and it has proven to be more than helpful, especially since I've lived in 3 different cities in the past 3 years.  My friend has Tom Tom, and she likes it.  However, I for the life of me can't figure out how to work it.Both of my grandmothers have Garmins (one is 67 and the other is 71), and both are able to work them.  Also, the new Garmins have a pretty neat thing.  There's a box telling you how much further until you turn. Another box tells you your estimated arrival time.  There's a box to tell you the next street you turn on.  And yet another that tells you your speed.  Also, all of these boxes are skinny enough that there's plenty of room left for the map.  I have an older one, which doesn't list your speed when you have a destination set.  I like that new function because it tells you exactly how fast you are going, and it has helped keep me from getting a ticket. The best thing to do is go to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or some other similar store and just play around with the different GPS.  This will help you decide which is better for you or your mom.
  • TomTom - I have no idea what other GPS's do so maybe this isn't special but mine will read out my text messages to me.  It makes me laugh when Fi sends me dirty ones and the robot voice reads them!

  • Go for Garmin .. with the Borat voice!
  • The best names for GPS are Magellan, Garmin and Tom tom.  That being said I have a Tom Tom  the one model.  It was 150 @ best buy like 2 years ago and it is awsome.  The best part of the GPS os that if you travel you can download maps for other countrys.  My Gps has been to Ireland and Mexico and is going to Italy :)  I would look at buying a GPS right after thansgiving.  Thats when the best deals are  .  I love this site for Black friday info early  http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/
