Paint my kitchen

So, we're renovated our kitchen, on day 1 and it looks like everything will be finished by thanksgiving (Yay!).I have everything purchased or picked out except for the paint. Pete and I can't decide what to go with. Here's the look we're going for:Our cabinets are going to be all white, with butcherblock countertops and checkerboard flooring. It's a galley kitchen (17' x 10') with 9'7" ceilings, so I don't want anything too dark. The house is 110 years old, so it was important that we did something that worked with the age, not sure if that matter with the paint or not.Suggestions?

Re: Paint my kitchen

• This sounds creepy but the color you have in your living room might look nice and soothing :)Also, what about a blue so pale it almost looks white? Like in the second picture? When did you decide to go with tile instead of laminate? Hi by the way :) I've been harassing St. Francois about Jordan, but they suck at answering emails. We're going to the Brentwood Petsmart this weekend, so I'm sure I"ll post if we end up with a dog.

• Miss Lippy's car.....is.....green. Really, I suck at interior design, but I think I'd like a little splash o' color. Not sure that the paint is the way to do it. See? I suck. Stop listening to me.

• What about a really light grey?  We just did a light mocha color in our living room & kitchen & I like it with our maple cabinets.  You'd need to work with your counter tops, though.

• I really like the gray in the first picture. I think any muted tone would work. I'm especially fond of pale green in kitchens.
Oh no we dropped the groom!! imagePlanning Bio UPDATED
• I love it so far.I vote either blue or grey
• I am a fan of the blue in the second picture. I also love pale greens.

• T, Hi!!! Where have you been? We thought about the green we used in the living room, but I think I want to go lighter. I do really love the color though, and we have an extra gallon, so I might paint a little swatch and see how it works. I really like the idea of a color that's very very light, like a blue, yellow, or green. We're still doing laminate for the flooring, I might even really cheat and do peel and stick tile. You should totally go to Petsmart Sunday and talk to them, I'm pretty sure they're there every Sunday. I hope he's still available, if he's anything like Ginger he'll pretty much rock. Oh, and we had all the electrical in the upstairs bathroom fixed today. I no longer need a potholder to turn off the lights!!squirrly - our countertops are cherry, so the color in the pics are pretty accurate as far as color.

• A mocha color like what we did would work for you too, then.  You could definitely lighten it, if you wanted to.  Something like this might work:http://www.valspar.com/explore-colors/signature-colors-by-designer/Seaside%20Retreat%20Colors.html

• I'm loving this color; A really icy blue..
• I have been busy as helll lately, seriously. I miss the knot.  What made you change your mind from wood laminate flooring? I mean I prefer the tiles, I'm just curious.  The tile in our kitchen is peel and stick too :) Fine with me, as long as it's not the fugly kind.

• I'm not sure what colours you've got going on in the adjoining rooms, but what a very, very light yellow?
• I am really loving the light grey color in your first pic. But without seeing the adjoining rooms it is hard. I usually prefer a color scheme that flows from room to room in the same colors, although I like different depths of color...shades of grey and charcoal, shades of chocolate and mocha. I find it more soothing than using different colors. Although gorgeous old houses like yours do showcase multiple colors very well.

• What about a lighter version of the green living room color? You might even just be able to mix some white or gray with it to keep the same hue but change the saturation. Then I think it would look great with both the dining and living rooms.

• Sascha, I feel the same way about color palates throughout homes. I don't want anyone to walk into a room and think "where the hell did that come from?"Here are the adjoining rooms:Dining roomLiving Room:

• Oh, and T, we decided to go with the checkerboard when I made up my mind about the countertops. I started googling and found those pictures with the checkerboard floor and fell in love. We considered tile, but we'd have to rip up who knows how many layers of old flooring to do that, plus I'm scared of laying tile.I think I might actually have a sample of a lighter green we were playing around with in the living room, I might try that at see how it looks. This is the kitchen now:That peach has to go.

• Sigh....so dreamy. Your house is stunning!! I am dying over the beautiful woodwork, fireplace and bookshelves. I am so sick of tract housing and boring stucco walls!!!!! I really love the color of your living room...it seems like a grayish-green in the pics? If so, I like tlv's idea of a lighter shade of the same.

• The peach is the color of my living room growing up....flashbacks!!! Yeah....it needs to go, haha.

• I second (third) tlv. A light greenish grey / grey with green undertones
• Aww, thanks sascha :) We love it too (most days). The living room paint is called Faded Silk, it's out of this collection: http://www.ralphlaurenhome.com/rlhome/products/paint/items.asp?haid=121. I'm trying to stick with all Ralph Lauren Vintage Masters because I feel like I have a better shot at everything looking right together if I stick with one line.

• Stupid ralph lauren's website won't let me copy color swatches.I'm thinking the lighter version of what we have in the living room is a good idea. On the link in my last post these caught my eye:Essex CreamAntique LaceI think I need to go get samples...

• Those are pretty! Yeah...try a little sample of each.
BabyFruit Ticker
• Oh, I like the Basalt. We have some really light blues we're going to use in some of the bedrooms so it would tie in with the rest of the house. Ok, I think I know what my weekend project is going to be, flooring + painting. Thanks everyone!!

• Basalt is my favorite. I'm having a hell of a time picking a good grey for my trunk, who would have thought grey could be so hard :)
• Your kitchen looks dreamy at the moment :) If you need any help this weekend let me know, I'll be picking out a puppy at some point and maybe going to a bachelorette party and a craft fair, but I'm getting better at painting :) And I need practice for my own peel and stick tiles in our basement.  If not, we need to make another date after Thanksgiving so we can see each other's updates!

• T, you rock :), I seriously might take you up on that offer. Our cabinets should be in by the 11th (double yay!) so we need to have the paint and flooring done this week. I'll FB you and let you know for sure the schedule when we get it figured out. I'm so happy you're going to get a dog! If it works out that it's Jordan Ginger is probably going to give you lots of slobbery puppydog kisses.
