Ranty question

Re: Ranty question

  • I wasn't calling anyone out in particular, Coco. I think we should all be better than that.  I don't see it is a political correctness issue either, I see it as a rights issue.

  • I don't watch the Office, so I will pretend the quotes were all your's Sucrets!

  • So, I'm confused. Students all the time, boys especially, will say "You're so gay" as an insult. I always stop them and say that's inappropriate, but should I let it slide?

  • I certainly don't think so, Whit.

  • lol, thanks ang!  Unrelated, I don't know why I'm watching the Kate show thingy.  It was all nice and SYTTD and now this.  But I'm that much of a drama whore (is that offensive to the whores out there?) that I haven't changed it.

  • The new thing among a lot of people I know is to say retard like the guy from the Hangover with the emphasis on the first syllable. They act like it's a different word and not at all offensive. It's strange.
  • Oh, whit, I definitely stop my kids.  One of them said that her chair was gay.  I said that I doubt her chair has a sexual orientation.  Yay HS.

  • will say "You're so gay" as an insult. I always stop them and say that's inappropriate, but should I let it slide? As it was explained to me, the term "ghey" is not used to say someone/something is "stupid."  Apparently, it means "they suck."  Which is appropriate, but so not appropriate at the same time.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Hm. I mean, I always stop them and say, "somone who actually is gay/homosexual would not appreciate you using that term as an insult" and occasionally they will reply with, "well, that's not what I meant" and then I do the two-step and say, "Well, regardless, name calling is not appropriate."Gah these kids, y'all. They kill me.

  • I'm not going to lie. I used to say "gay" a few years ago, but I replaced it with "lame" because I realized it was bad and needed to make sure I didn't say it in front of Ben.
  • Whit, if they say that is not what I meant, then tell them to pay better attention so they know the meaning of words.
