Re: Dessert First

  • ring_pop said what I wanted to say, lol...I can't eat sugar on an empty stomach like that.. it would make me sick. Although pie can be tasty, our bodies are just not designed to handle sugar on an empty stomach like that. Some people can handle it better than others, but why risk all that yummy pie going to waste? Save it for after dinner, is my advice.

  • Stage makes an excellent point. That bit of sugar at the end of the meal signals your brain that you are full.
  • I like apple pie a lot, but having pie, ice cream and cheese during cocktail hour is a lot of really rich food right before dinner. I would at least balance it out with a fruit and veggie tray. The last wedding I went to ONLY had cheese, crackers, fruit and veggies during cocktail hour and then had heavy apps for dinner. We all knew we were going to be fed in the next hour, so if cost is an issue, as long as you have SOMETHING, I don't see a light cocktail hour as a problem. It seems like a good idea, though, to do pie at the end and get a smaller wedding cake, so guests have a choice of dessert.
