Swine flu - personal experience Q

Yes, it's yet another swine flu question. Did any of you who've had it, have it without experiencing moderate to severe body pains? I ask because I've been wicked sick for about a week. Initially I was sure it was a cold, but the cough is so severe now that I'm not sleeping at night, and I'm having trouble breathing. I feel like I'm going to lose consciousness every time I have a coughing fit. Yes, I'm going to the doctor, but he can't see me until tomorrow. I've had the seasonal flu shot. I was sure this wasn't swine flu because I had no body pain at all, but now I'm not so sure. So... what was your personal experience? TIA

Re: Swine flu - personal experience Q

  • I haven't had it, but as with most ailments, not everyone gets every single symptom.

  • I started taking tamiflu at the first sign of symptoms b/c my fi was diagnosed with it, so we knew that's what I had.  He and I both started out with sore throats, and he had a fever.  The tamiflu kept me from getting a fever but I had lots of headaches.  Didn't really experience the body aches either, but the headaches were brutal and I had a stuffy nose and lots of coughing.
  • I know somebody who tested positive for it WITHOUT the fever AND the aches. She was just run down with a nasty cough that hung on forever. Good luck at the doc. And take some mucinex.
  • I had body aches for about a day of it.

  • I had it, and it was horrible. Every symptom (aside from the vomiting) reared its ugly head, and I thought I was going to die. I did have some body pain, but it was relatively mild and I'm not sure I can't chalk it up to being bedridden for days and then finally getting up and about. Take the advice for the mucinex - I had it brought to me from the US and it made a huge difference. Good luck. Maybe it's the Bacon Lung, but maybe it's not...
  • Thanks for the advice. I have been using Mucinex for a week... it just keeps coming up and coming up. (sorry, that was probably TMI).
  • At least something is moving... :o)Feel better. Get your rest.
  • I had it and it started with achy body and a scratchy throat.  The body pains were awful for like 3-4 days in the middle and then got better. I had all the symptoms except digestive issues but I had a lot of congestion and pain when coughing and trouble breathing and they gave me a chest x-ray just to make sure it hadn't progressed.  For the breathing they gave me an inhaler and a heavy duty decongestant which seemed to do the trick (except it kept me awake). It really was the most sick I can ever remember being.
  • I had it, but no sore throat. However, It at least felt like I had all of the other ones and my body hurt so much it felt like I had pulled muscles around my ribs, stomach, and back. I didn't get in early enough to get tamiflu, I just had to wait ti out. My dr. did give me a recipe to keep me hydrated though. 32oz water, 32 oz gatorade, 8 oz oj, and a largish pinch of salt. I guess it worked? HTH!
  • When my friend asked the doctor if her symptoms sounded like H1N1 he said there was one easy way of determining if you had swine flu or the regular flu... "Did you feel like you got hit by a Mac Truck?"  If you didn't, it wasn't swine flu.  Hope you feel better!
