Was JaysGirl in Canada?

From notalwaysright.com Translation: Stupid Gas Station | Ontario, Canada Customer: “Excuse me, why won’t my card work on the pump?” Me: “Is it an American card?” Customer: “Yes.” Me: “American cards don’t work at the pump.” Customer: “You should put up a sign or something.” Me: “Actually, there are several right above the card slot.” Customer: “Oh. Well, I don’t read Canadian…”

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • Leno did jaywalking a few weeks ago and he was asking people how they would ask for a coke if they were in Toronto - hand motions was the best answer they could come up with.
  • I thought English was the predominant language in Toronto.  Or at least it was when I was there for work several years ago.
  • It certainly is, across all of canada except Quebec - and even then a lot of them DO speak english.
  • Thanks.  Thought my memory had left with my sanity some time ago. Just had the Montreal/Quebec language discussion with my brother last week who lives in Montreal. He had to learn French to become a citizen.
  • A canadian citizen or one living in montreal? I have a ton of friends living in montreal who are just really learning french now. I never knew that.
  • When I was in student housing in LA, they used to do jaywalking at our apartment complex a lot. *headdesk*

  • They give you bonus points if you know both of Canada's official languages when you apply for citizenship. Canada has stricter immigration requirements than the US, for sure.

  • I didnt know it was hard. I was working with a woman last year trying to get her citizenship and I had to keep reviewing with her how to sing the national anthem. I cant imagine being deported because you cant sing a song.
  • He became a Canadian citizen the past August.  It was great for him.  He's never been happier.
  • He may have just needed the French requirement for Montreal though.
  • Well, they give points in Canada based on stuff, like if you have a job with a skill they need, or know the languages. You need a certain number of points to qualify. If you have a work visa, I'm sure it's already easier because you basically already have a job.The US has the easiest immigration requirements of anyone in the world. Yeah, it might take you 9 years to get approved, but as long as you're not a convicted felon, you're pretty much good. Our citizenship test also consists of questions like "Who was the first president?" and "How many states are there?"FWIW, Canada has a really nice national anthem.

  • Thanks :) Canada is a nice country!
  • It is! I LOVE Toronto, I've been there a lot. FI lived there for two years, too, when he was really little and one of his sister's was born there and has dual citizenship. Since I grew up near the border, I know a lot of people with dual citizenship. They are really lucky. If I had that, I'd move to Toronto!
