Not having a DJ?

What do you think of this? We are thinking of having the musicians that will play at our ceremony and cocktail hour play for the rest of the wedding. What do you think of this?

No DJ for me, iPod reception woot woot! I'm going to have a friend keep an eye on it, but I've got speakers and enough songs loaded on my iPod to last about 5 hours, without any help. I'm sure your idea would work.

I forgot to mention the wedding will be from 12-4 pm and it will be a relatively small wedding.

Depends on the musicians. String trio? Probably not. Jazz band? Maybe.

Why not just switch to an iPod after the cocktail hour?  That worked great for us.

We downgraded our ceremony music to just a harpist so we'd have enough cash for a jazz and blues band. I thought about doing a string quartet at the reception but the band is better for dancing.

This is a string trio that plays everything, irish, swing etc.

Depends on the type of music they play. You could also switch to an iPod, which is what I think we're doing.

I suppose if they played fairly upbeat music you could get away with it.

I dont know about your family, but my family would be very bored! We have to party and dance for our wedding!! We have to have a DJ

We're having an afternoon wedding as well, with ipod.  The string quartet could work if nobody is likely to want to dance, but it depends on your crowd.
