I know a lot of you guys are following this...They just broke into the news and said the killer is not dead.  He's in stable condition at the hospital.

Simply - They initially said that "the shooter" was dead and 2 other soldiers were in custody. It wasn't known if they had also taken part in the shooting.

really?  Thanks for the update.. I was at work when the story broke (no computer or tv), by the time I got home DH was watching movies.I'm not really up to date like I should be on the story.

There was one shooter.  Witnesses said they saw 2 other guys.  They were arrested, questioned and released.  They've decided he acted alone.  It was reported all day that he was shot and killed.  He's actually alive.

We'll spend thousands of dollars to save his life, then a few more to turn around and kill him.  I doubt the military will let him live.

They reported his name earlier, and were trying to find out if it was a given name, or he'd converted. Just a lot of unknowns at this point.It does appear my friend is okay, but I'll feel better when he himself posts that news.  My student teacher supervisor's sister is a nurse there and she's still on lockdown, but is okay.

This may have already been mentioned in the other thread, but apparently he was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed up until July.  Not great to think that he was supposed to be looking after the mental health of others.

The reports here (Killeen news) say it was a given name.Where does she work?  They're reporting that post is no longer on lockdown - they're just up-ing security and checking every car that comes on and leaves post.

I understand not wanting to deploy, but dude, they're in the army. That kind of comes with the territory. I don't know many people in the military so I don't know much about it, but if you're going to get that upset about it, shouldn't you not be in the military to begin with?

No - all from the news. I've been watching it online and reading the stories all afternoon because of my friend.I just saw her post about her sister on FB.  She posted it about an hour ago, and had just found out about the whole thing (they've had parent -teacher conferences, and she hadn't seen the news).MSNBC is reporting that the soldier was pretty upset about his deployment orders and had come under some scrutiny, but they aren't calling it a terrorist attack, but a criminal activity. Some of their story is based on anonymous sources.

I just found out that my friends dad worked in the mental health area. He's fine, but that area is still on some kind of lock down. I'll post something if I can get anything out of him. *so don't mean that the way it sounds, but I don't know how else to put it.

Why the fukc would you even join the army if you feel this way? I understand wanting the great benefits that the military has to offer, but it isn't worth it if you feel that strongly about deployment.

I don't know many people in the military so I don't know much about it, but if you're going to get that upset about it, shouldn't you not be in the military to begin with? ^THIS.  The whole concept of the conscientious objector thing really bugs me.  War is kind of part of the deal.  If you don't like it, don't want to do it, or plain ole' don't agree with it, then DON'T sign up.  It's not like you're being forced into service.  I think too many people think it's just a stable job, good benefits, no taxes and free school.  Yeah.  It comes with a price.

squirrly, I hope you get some good news soon.  I'm sure FI is very anxious. That's the worst part.  And, I'm guessing part of the lockdown is not letting them contact anyone but immediate family; which is why my friend hasn't posted.  Thinking good thoughts....

DH says that if he was upset about the deployment, he would have gone AWOL. Not killed people. He also said that the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) states punishment by death for premeditated murder. This guy will most likely die by a firing squad, because "that's how the military executes" according to DH.

Well, he was supposedly at Walter Reed for 6 years, which means that he probably didn't deploy (right, Nova?) Maybe he had this notion that he never would and then when he got orders, he flipped.

Yeah I just hate that there's so many people trying to save his life right now.  He's at the hospital DH is a student at and some of his friends saw him and his professors are operating on him.  Just irks me...

Nova - I asked him if they still did that too. He believes that they do.
