On my local news:Last week veterinarians in Iowa confirmed that a 13-year-old house cat tested positive for the H1N1 virus. They also determined it became infected from human contact. It's sparked an outpouring of concern from local cat owners. Vets tell us if your cat shows signs of respiratory illness you should contact your veterinarian.

yup heard about this last week. poor kitty is ok now, apparently, but now there is a whole lot of people taking their pets to the vet afraid they might have it.

I heard that last week.  But the article I read said the cat was old had various health issues.  They don't think it's going to be a huge problem for younger, healthy cats.

It's the first I've heard of the virus being spread to another species. A little scary, I must admit.

It's the first I've heard of the virus being spread to another species. A little scary, I must admit. many diseases can cross the species barrier. it's scary if it mutates and then crosses BACK as a new strain.

I believe pigs have been getting it from humans for a while; the state fair had hands off and sanitizers for the non-show pigs because of it. It's the fact that it's a domestic pet that's upsetting people.  If I remember what I heard correctly, for the pigs, they give them aspirin for the fever until it's passed.

Yeah, people were all up in arms about getting it from pigs, when actually people were GIVING it to pigs.That's been happening for a while.
