Re: car opinions

  • Nissan's are great cars. I have a '97 Nissan that has over 250k miles on it and it's still going :)

  • I love the Nissan Rogue (a smaller version of the murano); the toyota highlander; and my own personal toyota matrix :) I'm not really a fan of Fords. FI has one and I just don't care for how they drive. I test-drove a couple of Fords and I couldn't get past how... jittery... they feel. That's the only way I know how to describe it. Also, I personally think Fords are over-priced compared to their competitors. And yes, Toyota employs a tremendous number of Americans. Actually, last time I checked, they employ MORE Americans than Ford does. Ford outsources quite a bit.
  • Tide, that's awesome - what a great deal. So far I haven't had a single issue with mine - except that I'm an idiot and when I get out of the car I put my heel in the same spot on the floor, and apparently a not well-reinforced spot, and I put a hole in the carpeting right next to my floor mat. :(
  • why do you need such a large vehicle?
  • I haven't read all of the other replies, but I just wanted to throw out there that Lexus is made by Toyota, so you can go with a Toyota and basically have a Lexus (slightly less luxurious in some aspects) at a much lower cost.  And I'm also partial to Toyota since I drive one.  Very great cars, in my opinion.
  • Andplusalso, FI drives a chevy and it's falling to peices.  FMIL used to drive a chevy and it fell to peices.  GMC always falls to peices, also.  There are just a lot of problems with them that I've personally experienced or have heard from other people. And my Toyota was manufactured at a plant in the US by American workers.  Yes, it's a foreign company, but it has plants all over and often times, you can get one that was made right here at home and isn't as crappy as an American company.  Just sayin'.
  • The Lexus RX is my dream car for when I have kids to trek around someday so I am biased.  I used to get loaner ones from the dealership when my ES was in the shop, and I loved everything about it.  My cousin also has one and loves it.  Can you really get an '08 or newer for under $25K though?
  • I haven't read through any of the other posts, so sorry if I'm repeating anyone. My FI's parents have an Edge and his mom said the blindspots in it are huge. When the lease is up they will not be buying their Edge for this reason. I like the look of the Murano and the RX. Personally speaking, if I was to trade in my truck and get an SUV I'd buy a Jeep Liberty or one of the new Jeep Commanders. I had a Liberty a few years back and LOVED it. We had to sell it to finance our move out west, and I was very sad to see it go. Roomy, comfortable and, the best part of all, it's a Jeep. I love Jeep. :) haha! Good luck in your search!
  • Kristin, that argument doesn't really hold water anymore. Too many "American" companies have cars built overseas then taken apart and shipped over here to be assembled or parts completely furnished by overseas companies.By the same token, many "overseas" companies have manufacturing plants here in the US.Your so-called Ford may actually be a Mitsubishi or such, simply rebranded.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • And because I'd want to choose an American car from an American company.Yes, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are Japanese companies.  However, at least for Toyota, virtually all cars they sell in the US are made in the us, by Americans.  My hometown is supported by the original US Toyota plant, and makes all the Camrys sold in North America.  When our HS student population was double what the school could hold & the taxpayers wouldn't vote through a property tax increase of 10 cents to build a new school, Toyota paid their property taxes in advance.  They're a wonderful employer, and they do a great deal to support their community.  Oh, and their cars are well made, too./soapboxWe have a Honda Fit & a Toyota 4-Runner.  Once we have kids, we'll trade the Fit for a Pilot.

  • For that size vehicle, my Honda pilot was my most favoritest car ever. I was painting a lot of murals, so I needed an SUV to haul my ladder and paint everywhere. But when that died down I traded for a sedan, which was not my style, then I got divorced and bought my Civic coupe, and I have to say it's by far my favorite vehicle EVER. I love driving it, parking it, fueling it... it's perfect. Esp. for the price.
  • Oh, and Toyota donates a car to my HS every year to be raffled off.  That one raffle is how all of the sports teams & other extra curricular activities are funded.

  • DO NOT get a Murano.  Up until yesterday I loved mine.  I was driving yesterday in a bad part of town and my car started driving funny (it was like I was driving in 4WD or had the E brake on).  We ended up getting it towed and taking it into the shop and found out that the transfer case cracked.  After googling this problem last night, I found that it is a pretty common occurence.  I haven't heard back from the shop yet, but from the forums I saw online, most people were without their vehicle for at least a week and the fix was between $5000 and $7000.  Hopefully it is covered under warranty.

  • No problem.  Like I said, up until yesterday I would have recommended that car to anyone, but after what happened and then googling the problem it seems very widespread.

  • My vote is for the Ford Edge.
