Re: Honest opinions needed

  • Your dress, gorgeous.  Me loves it, and if I didn't already have a dress, I'd be trying it on.The other chick's dress, not so much.  Reminds me of those old victorian/eliabethian paintings where the dresses have a 12 food diameter.  How does one dance with the new hubby in something that huge?
  • I think it's called a chastity dress.  You know, to ensure that the bride's flower remains intact until AFTER the reception.

  • Brie-thanks for the tip about the belly button. If I still had my belly button piercing in, that would definitely show through. I"m thinking about wearing Spanx underneath to smooth everything out, and they would go up pretty high. And yes, there's a real girl in that dress. As in, she actually wanted to buy that dress. I have no idea why. I just remember I could barely squeeze by her and her dress to get to the other side of the room.

  • Mocha, if Cinderella did it, so can she.  Duh!

  • Your dress is gorgeous, I really like it. The girl behind you though... I would not pair a cathedral length veil with those marshmallows!
  • Mocha-thanks! I LOVE your dress as well, and almost went for something very similar. It looks great on you :) And honestly, I could see that poor girl's husband being swallowed in the taffeta as he tries to get her out of it. He could smother to death in it. Not a very romantic wedding night!

  • Shhh, don't tell her if Cinderella did it she can!  Don't give her any more ideas! Thanks Hilary!  I tried on a bunch of Romona's and loved them, but didn't want to/couldn't talk FI into spending the money.I think I saw a Platnium Weddings episode once where the dress was bigger than that, custom made to be huge, with a huge train that was just as poufy.  I'd be worried about it brushing against something too, getting food on it.
  • HilaryH, I think the dress is going to be gorgeous on you after it is properly fitted. Don't be afraid to go for a decent bra if the sewn-in cups don't do it for the girls. ::off to stalk the bio for more bride-eating marshmallow horrendousness::
  • i actually love your dress. it will look gorgeous one it fits!
  • I feel like it sits too low on your chest.  Other than that, I think it is stunning.  I love the draping over the chest and the draping/neckline contrast, I think its a gorgeous detail.  The pouching and bunching around the tummy may be throwing you off too, but I think that will take care of itself once it is sized down.   And holy amazing figure batman! It always makes me so happy to see dresses that don't have bows and pickups and beading throw up all over them.  I LOVE simple, gorgeous dresses.

  • HOLY GOD, that dress behind you.  WHY would someone do that to themselves?  "Yes, I'd like to pay thousands of dollars to look like bloated cupcake please."

  • I think it's beautiful and looks great on you!  Fitting will make all the difference in the world.  And yes, you don't want to be hiking it up all night.  I lost weight after my last fitting and was pulling mine up.  Not flattering. And holy mother of god, she wants that dress to be POUFIER???  How is she even going to be able to reach her husband to dance with him???  I just imagine small children getting lost in there.

  • I love it!! Simple yet elegant. I think if you buy a dress early into planning you ALWAYS second guess it. I bought mine in December 08 and just got married in October. I was almost in tears one night because I thought I looked like a cream puff. A week before the wedding I had my final alteration and remembered why I loved it. My friends told me to stop looking at magazines.

  • mocha-there's no way I could have afforded a new Romona either. I bought the sample dress--the one that's in the pictures. Luckily it was in good condition!haha, I'm starting to regret that I didn't sneak pictures just of that girl and her dress. Maybe she'll be in for her fitting the same time I am! east, I agree that in some of the pictures it does sit low--I think that's partially  because it's loose and partially because it's too long and so the excess fabric is making it heavy and pulling it down. I'm going to get it fitted as tight as possible to give it some extra lift for sure. And sucrets, I actually just laughed out loud at the thought of parents looking for their kids at the end of the night and the girl pulling them out from under her skirt. Poor little kiddies, I bet it's hot under there. Thanks again everyone for the tips! I was bracing myself to hear the awful truth but now am feeling much better :)

  • sweetheart neckline = look at my boobs!
  • I think it is lovely!  Once it is fitted properly (def. needs to be a bit higher on top, but that will come when it's taken in), it will be gorgeous! Perhaps that lady in the back's dress is like the Trojan Horse.  There are Hobbits or Ewoks or something under there waiting to attack.  Hilary, I'm glad you weren't in the bridal salon when she staged the takeover.

I wonder how she will sit and I hope to god she doesn't drink anything or she will have to wear the bridal diaper!
  • I really really like it, very elegant. Ditto about making sure you have a good seamstress to make it fit perfectly. And ditto about the ugly dress in the background. :)

  • It's very pretty on you.  I really like it.  I agree with pp that once it has been altered, it will be flawless.
  • Now I really can't wait to do the alterations, so I can have it fit the way you all convinced me to believe it will!

  • It is really pretty, understated and elegant. I really liked it until I peaked in your bio and saw the back detail, then I LOVED it. I think when it fits you, it will be perfect on you.

  • I really like it and you look wonderful in it (and it will be even better once it's altered). It's very classic--twenty years from now you won't cringe when you look at your wedding pictures... your dress will still be considered beautiful then.
