Hello? Is there anybody out there?

Just nod if you can hear me....

So I heard a bunch of people defected to proboards.  Is there anyone left that's around for a chat thread?

Re: Hello? Is there anybody out there?

  • ::nods::

Hey JK.  I'm only kinda here.  I'm working on figures for a paper I'm writing and I basically want to cut my head off.
  • I'm sort of here. Having a slow Sunday so far as I had trouble sleeping the last few nights.

  • Hi guys!

    That sounds....not fun, Joy.

Sorry you're having trouble sleeping, Bubb.  That's the worst.  We just got back from vacation, so last night was our first night sleeping in our bed in over a week, but we didn't get to sleep for nearly long enough.  I kind of just want to go curl up in it and sleep the day away.

  • NOD!

I'm around. In my PJs still. Bum.

How was your trip, J? Amazing, I hope!
    image
  • I know the feeling. H is back in bed already because he woke up at o'dark early. Blech. But in a couple hours I'm headed to my sister's for tea and crumpets (heh. crumpets) and it's good for me to get out of the house.

What are you up to today?

  • The "getting published" part is fun.  The completely anal-retentive mode that is necessary to pull the paper together is horrific.

Everything must be arial font.  Everything must be high resolution.  All the data is from a year or two ago, but you better remember where it is.  This isn't centered and this color is a shade of gray off.  Good farking grief.

Hey Bubs!  I hope you're feeling well otherwise!  You are often quoted on the Baby Names board!
  • We had a dozen girls here to grill out (just brats/burgers and deli salads) and then did the party bus deal for DD's B-party. I was DREADING it because her bio mom was coming, but it was really fun. Lasted until 2:22 AM! Pretty good for an old lady like me!

  • Getting published IS awesome, Joy!  But yes, the work is tedious for sure.

Willy, it was awesome.  I had a little run in with some rotten rock while we were hiking and banged myself up pretty well, and we had a couple scary flights (landing in the mountains is NO BUENO, and neither is landing in a thunderstorm), but other than that it was awesome.  I'm uploading our 700 photos now, and I'm going to get going on my blog posts later today.

MrsJ, we went to Yellowstone and the Tetons.

  • Cool, J! Owie on the run-in with the rock, though. I bet it was gorgeous. And besides the t-storm, did you have nice weather? It has been GLORIOUS here!

Joy, congrats on 'getting published.' WOOHOO!

MrsJesse, I have no intention of leaving the house today. Might not even get dressed. I give my nod of approval for staying on your couch. Weeding does suck.

I'm kind of sore today from either 1) bumpy bus ride or 2) dancing like a maniac. Maybe both. Oddly, not hung over ONE BIT.

  • Ugh, I still haven't managed the HM map embroidering.  Some day!  I'd like to do something for this trip too, but I haven't decided yet...and you know, should probably do the HM first ;)

  • The weather was awesome.  No rain, sun every day, no humidity at all (yay for semi-arid climates) and temps between 70-80 almost every day, and nice and cool at night.  I could have come out of the rotten rock incident worse, for sure (like I could have fallen down the mountain, ha)--just some nasty bruises and soreness, so I'm considering myself lucky!

  • Hiya!  Welcome back J.  Glad you enjoyed your vacay!  I can't wait to see pictures and hear stories.  Landing by the mountains is not the most fun.  During the wildfires in June it was really bad cause of the drafts caused by the smoke/heat plumes.

    Joy - sounds tedious.

Wally - sounds like a good time was had by all.  I'm glad.
  • Yeah, the fires in Idaho were really hazing things up out there.  I was pretty sure that we were going to die landing in Jackson.  It was bad.  There were some bad drops.  When we were deplaning, I saw someone's oxygen mask had dropped.  I'm pretty sure if I would have seen that during the descent, I would have had a flippin' heart attack on the spot.

  • Hey guys. Just got back from Canada. Sadface. Getting ready to head over to the school so I can figure out where I'm going tomorrow. And being all stressed about actually having to get my sh*t together.

J: How was Yellowstone? I want to go there so bad.
  • map embroidery?
  • J, I'd flip right out if the masks dropped. Scary.

MrsJesse, wedding was my 'summer shore' at home. I grew to completely despise it. My dad was really into putting rock every freakin' place in the yard, and the weeds would come up through the plastic. Ick.

    Bubb, bummer on the insomnia.

Aww, Any. That trip went fast!
    image
  • Yay for school, Any!  Yellowstone was awesome, but I wish we had planned more time in the Tetons.  You guys should totally go sometime :)

Wow, that's a lot of weeds, MrsJesse.  I hate wedding so so so much.  Gross.  I'm glad you got it done!

  • Yeah, it was awesome. Although I still have a headache from riding a lot of very fast roller coasters in quick succession last Sunday. I think I burst some capillaries or something.

That's a lot of parks!  Make sure to schedule some time in Grand Teton National Park for sure when you make it out there.  Yellowstone is cool and weird, and stuff you won't see anywhere else, but GTNP is phenomenally gorgeous.  When we were hiking there, I just stopped and looked around a few times and thought "this is amazing, and I can't believe I'm here."  And we saw moose there.

<div>It's not one I expect to finish, but I'm definitely going to try. And duly noted on GTNP. I've heard it's amazing, and after being back home, I just want to go hiking all the time. Damn H, making me be all American and stuff. </div>

I love these!  I want to hike in every state, and on every continent (except Antarctica, because fuuuuuuck that).

<div>That's an awesome goal.  If you guys hike and stuff, Baxter State Park in Maine is better than Acadia National Park.  They're about 3 hours apart I think.  We spent 5 days hiking in Baxter and 3 days bumming around in Acadia and we could have done with 2 days in Acadia and an extra day in Baxter.  Just my two cents.</div>
  • I want to go to Baxter.  That's where Katahdin is, yes?

  • I did one 5K that started in Minnesota, we ran over a bridge back into South Dakota then turned around and came back to the start. Kind of weird. I only have three states done so far, even though I've done about 20 runs.

NG has three capitols done, but not the same as my 5K states.
    image
  • Yup.  We summited Katahdin when we were there.  We came up it from the eastern side though, so I've been at the end of the Appalachian Trail, but we didn't actually hike any of it :).
  • J&K I haven't been to the Tetons yet (we were going to go last fall, but ended up cancelling our vacation when H got his job out here) but that's how I felt in the Alps on our HM.  They were awe inspiring.
  • What's the elevation gain to summit Katahdin, do you know?  If you don't, I'll just look it up, ha.

Yeah, it was super weird, b ecause there are mountains in Yellowstone, but they felt more like....big hills?  I think because there was more vegetation on them.  In GTNP, when we were hiking I truly felt like I was in the mountains.  That probably sounds really lame, but we don't have mountains here!  The elevation difference was a killer though.
