What's a reasonable amount to pay per person for open bar?

Hi all!  I'm having a destination wedding in San Juan at a hotel, so our options for liquor are somewhat limited.  i.e., they pretty much call the shots, and we can't bring in our own liquor.

I negotiated for a limited open bar, (with just wine, beer, a couple signature cocktails, sangria, soda, and champaigne toast), but they say it's still $62 a person!  That seems a LOT for a group who hardly drink at all!  (Neither of our family or friends are real drinkers.)  It's a 6 hour open bar since that's the length of reception plus cocktail hour, but that seems crazy long to me!

If you don't mind sharing, what do  you think is reasonable pp for a limited open bar?  (And now keeping in mind it's destination!!)

Thank you!!

6 hours!!  (The length of the reception & cocktail hour.)  Even that sounds excessive, right??!

My venue groups the alchol and food, also with cake and hor d'erves and its only 65 a person for all of it. Pretty much all venues I looked at were around that so what you have seems quite high.

I think the one venue that didn't group them had another 30 dollars per person for the open bar

Could you have a cash bar when at the end of the night you pick up the tab?

That's a good idea-- I'll ask if they'll offer that as an option.  They really haven't been very flexible!

It does sound expensive with the added info that you said none are big drinkers. If it's not a priority I'd skip it.
