Wife chop

As you know, I got my hair cut this weekend.  We have discussed our wife chops and friends of mine have also gotten wife chops.  A classmate of mine suggested I submit it to urban dictionary.  So, as of this morning, wife chop is pending review in urban dictionary.

Re: Wife chop

  • Hehe.  Is mom-chop in there?  I'm holding out, but there is no way I'm blow-drying this mess every day when I gots young'ns.
  • I'm out of the loop on what a wife chop is. I'm assuming it's chopping your hair (that you may or may not have grown out especially for the wedding) right after you get married?

  • That is it precisely, Lauren.

  • Oh, that's a great one!  I also like "procrasturbation," which was featured in a Dan Savage column not too long ago. See - I'm tying together threads.
  • I still haven't wife chopped my hair.  My hair is my security blanket.  Every time I think about it, I talk myself out of it pretty quick.

  • I might be an excellent candidate for a wife chop, then. My hair hasn't been this long in 2 or 3 years, and I'm growing it for the wedding. Today it's rainy outside, which means my already thick, wavy hair is now damp, heavy, hot, and curly. I have no idea how I'll make it through the summer with the mane I've got going on right now.

  • a very odd man I work with pulled me aside the other day and "complimented" me on not changing my appearance post-wedding. I thought he was just congratulating me on not gaining 50 pounds as soon as I said "I do", but maybe he was just more familiar with the Wife Chop concept than I am.
  • I'm getting the wife chop right after the wedding.  Before the honeymoon.  Going to Italy and I want a style more fashionable than a pony tail.  I had long hair for the longest time and then a few years ago I went chin length and I love it.  So growing it out now is a bit annoying.

  • I'm definitely not chopping my hair post-wedding.  I miss my long hair so much... honestly, the only reason I wish we were having a longer engagement is so my hair could grow more.

  • I'm totally chopping off my hair post-wedding.  I've been itching to do it for MONTHS now.

Only 7 more months of this much-too-long hair...

  • What I don't understand is, if you don't like your hair long, why grow it out for a wedding, don't you want to look like yourself?

  • I'm chopping mine off after the wedding.  My hair is normally long-ish, but there are times (like the summer) that I just want it short.  Since I've been growing it out for a year so I can have a pretty updo, I can't wait to chop it off before going on our honeymoon.
  • I used to keep my hair really long. Like almost to my waist long. Then I chopped it all off about two years ago and have regretted it every day since. I like it long, it just drives me crazy some days, like today.

  • I cut mine all off before the wedding, and now am growing it back out a bit. I'm backwards!

But I already have a short cut picked out for summer. It's awesome.

I wish I didnt wife chop my hair after the wedding, its taken me a year and a half just to get it to this length. growing curly hair out is a biitch.
  • I am actually thinking of taking off 6" this week,  I have super long hair and love long hair.  I am not going to be a wife chop.  I also have curly hair so I think it is hard to go short without having to do alot of hair work every day.

I'm myself no matter what length my hair is.  My hair is really long now (long for me, anyway- past the shoulders), and I will definitely be ready for some sort of change after the wedding.
