My FI and I are having an intimate wedding June 24th, 2012 (it's a Sunday with 16 people total) with immediate family and 2 friends. We let my FI's brother's family know the good news (and that FI's niece was being asked to be our Jr. BM, which she promptly accepted). However, turns out, my FI's brother planned a vacation to Maine starting the Sat before. FI's family knew my FI was going to propose, and even went so far as to tell him "we'll be there anywhere, anytime". However, it turns out they can't get their deposit back or move their vacation to different dates. They basically have told us it "seems like we won't be able to make it, but our two sons might". We asked if they could leave for vacation right after the wedding or anything, but they don't seem to receptive to the idea.
What do we do? I figure at minimum FI should call his brother to see what's up, but do we wait for the formal STD/invites to go out? Doesn't seem likely the chances of them getting their deposit back will vastly improve as we get closer to the dates...any thoughts?
