I LOVE living in a small town!

I'm back already from voting.
The location is 2 miles from the house. There were 2 people at the booths with 4 still empty and no one in the sign-in line.  Total trip: 20 minutes.

It took me longer to get Julia ready and out the door than it did to actually vote.

Re: I LOVE living in a small town!

  • I have always wished I lived in a small town.  Preferably one where I can walk to the grocery store.
    Yay for voting!

  • mrs. b, totally unrelated, but is julia your first?

  • We have an IGA about 3/4 mile away.  We could walk if we wanted to but that's not where we shop regularly.  That's our milk run grocery.

Yep, Julia's my first.  She's spoiled already (in a good way of course ;-)

  • i spoiled (and am spoiling) my daughter too.  she's 17 months and she's just learned how to say "no".  actually, she says "no no no" because that's what I tell her when she's about to get her little hands into something she's not supposed to.  but it's quickly becoming her favourite word, and sometimes for her, no actually means yes.  lol

having a girl is so much fun isn't it?  we seem to have so much more choice clothing wise.

and i also live in a small town, it's awesome.  all we have is a town hall and a gas station. i'll echo fish and ask, how small is your town?

  • Oh, and the local newspaper had a reporter there and she interviewed me and Julia. She seemed especially interested in the fact that she was the youngest "voter" so far today.  I was wearing her in the Sleepy Wrap so I could be hands free and it covered up her little dress but I had her in 4th of July dress to be patriotic.  I showed the reporter but she didn't have a camera.  Anyway, maybe our names will be in the story.  =-)

  • better change that female count to 532 since Julia now lives there too!  :-)
  • Wow, B. That is small. I just looked up our population, and we're a little town just outside the county seat and we have about 5,600 people. 2,808 males and 2,851 females. I really though ours was small, but you must live in Mayberry.
  • Oh, but there are some rough people out here.  I'm tellign you, I went to the Dollar General the other day to get some organizing baskets and I was wearing a nursing tank top and a pair of yoga pants.  In comparison to the other clothing choices, I looked like I was ready to walk down the red carpet.  As my dad would say, a lot of the folks around here look like they've "been rode hard and put away wet".

This sounds just like H's hometown. People actually looked at me like I had two heads the first time I wore heels to the grocery store. Their population is very, very close to yours.

We lived there for a bit, and as much as I'm a city girl, I kind of miss it. I never thought I would actually miss living in the country...lol.

  • I would enjoy that side of a small town, but the lack of anywhere to go would drive me nuts. I need options. Of course, I never actually leave my house, but I have to know that I could.

  • Yeah, it's nice and quiet where we are.  Except for the hawks and bears. ;-)

  • I always thought I would hate living in a small town but I actually really like it.  Of course my 'small town' is about 10-12,000 but I know what you mean that everything you need is around the corner.

I love that you put her in a 4th of July dress too!
  • The cool thing is we're only 20 minutes from groceries, pharmacies, etc in the next town which has almost 40,000 people.  30 minutes and we can be at the movie theatre.

  • How small a town are we talking here Bee?  I am originally from a town of about 10,000.  I can't do t hat.  But, 100,000.  Well that I could definitely do... I do prefer my city of 1million though.

  • I grew up in a small town outside a city of 300,000. It was a pretty good balance. Pretty family-friendly, but access to most everything you could need.

My parents live in small towns, with the closest city being about 40,000 and 20 minutes away. they have TWO WalMarts now and just got a Target!

I think I could spend about half the year in a very small town, like in rural Montana, just living on my own with a garden and a labrador. But I'd have to be able to be in the city for at least 3-6 months a year.

  • In small towns everyone knows everyone else's business.  I grew up in a small town and always tried to fly under the radar.  I've since moved to FI's hometown where he is a town employee and knows everyone.  At one of the last town meetings, someone walked up to FI's parents and congratulated them about their impending grandchild and had heard the wonderful news that I was preggers.  I wasn't pregnant.  FI's boss was going to be a grandparent.  I love small towns.  But yeah, the quick and easy voting a plus.
