Stupid fashion trends you hate.

So I have seen that tie-dye is supposed to making some big "comeback."  Oh give me a break.  TIE DYE?  Jerry Garcia is dead,  sorry.   I don't understand that one at all.

What are some fashion trends/items/whatever that make you scratch your head?

Also, I think the one piece rompers look ridiculous on anyone over the age of sixteen, no matter how tall/thin/short/squat/hot/ugly you are.  Rompers do not discriminate.  They make everyone look equally stupid.

  • Personally, I think those gladiator-style sandals look rediculous.
  • Harem pants
    Gladiator sandals
    Eye piercings
    Flashdance shirts
    Jean cutoffs
    Jean or corduroy maxi skirts
    Peasant blouses
    Cork wedges
    Reallllly low-risee pants

  • These tight brightly colored jeans people are wearing with the eighties neon shades. It takes a very specific body type to get away with skinny jeans, add neon yellow and it's hard for them to look flattering on most anyone.
  • Harem pants. Why do you want to make your hips/ass look bigger?!
  • Mag, you reminded me... Socks with sandals, under ANY non-hiking circumstances.
  • Tight jeans and deeply v-necked tee's on men.  Why are you shopping in the girls section dude?

That so funny that you say tie-dye, because I was tie-dying shirts yesterday...but no worry...it's not for every day use. There was an actual reason behind it.

Other things? I'm still hating leggings as pants.

I just can never wrap my mind around people who take part in the latest fashion trend, even when it doesn't look good on them. As a person who needs to lose some weight, I don't run around in short shorts and tube tops, KWIM?

Speaking of short shorts...I don't understand that cutoff shorts where you can see the pockets. Thank you, Britney Spears for that lovely fashion movement.

    I FKNG HATE UGGS!!!!!! HHHAAATTTEEE!!!!

Other than that, i agree that the gladiator sandals are fug.

  • Uggs.  Great for practicality but I think it is just ridiculous that anyone not in a snow covered state wears them.

    Gladiator sandals.

Low rise pants.  Unless you are Britney Spears you look like crap in them.

Flared jeans.  I know!  everyone loves them but you know what?  They make most women look bigger.

    Ginormous slouchy purses.

  • Honestly, I'd love it if I could wear tights as pants.  It looks so comfortable.

  • OMG, I've managed to miss that Harem pants are back. Ew.

When I wen to Tokyo a couple of years ago, I thought to myself, those sandals aren't cute.

About 3 months later, I saw them in stores in the US. It was gladiator sandals.

It is.  I never do it now but in college my friends and I wore leggings as much as possible with hoodies.  So college girl-ish but it's damn comfortable.

It may look comfortable, but it's not a flattering look unless you're a twig.

I just opt for knit pants when I want something super comfy.
  • They apparently have a Spanx-like shirt for men now?  Has anyone else seen this?  I don't see it catching on.  I think most men would rather be comfortable than slimmer looking.

Can you even imagine being single, going on a date with your new fella, going home together for the first time and having to remove his spanx?  Talk about a boner killer.

I know that the Gap has a bunch of tie-dye items on their site right now.

I don't think that rompers are so bad - it's the jumpsuits that are pretty ugly looking, IMO.
    image
  • Tights are wonderful, but I hate when people wear them as pants, not as tights. Throw some tights on under a mini-dress, and you look great. Wear just tights and a shirt, and it looks like you forgot your skirt. No good on anyone, regardless of body type.
  • For me, rompers and jumpsuits go hand in hand. I think they're both good in theory, but bad IRL.

I saw a woman the other day in Wal-Mart wearing this hideous floral romper with weight socks, bleach blonde hair, scrunci and a visor. She looked like she was made of leather and she was about 60.

I wish I would have taken a picture. It was gloriously terrible.
  • They were talking about those on the radio here yesterday, east.  I was like, WTF?

I think that you have to have a short torso to pull them off. I'd get a major wedgie from them. No thanks!

  • I'll have you know, I have a short plain black romper and I rock it with cork wedges like whoa. So there Tongue out

I hate Uggs. Under any circumstances. Even in snow. They're just hideous and totally not practical, despite people saying they're great snow boots. They're suede for crying out loud.

  • I think I saw overalls at the Gap the other day. I cannot believe anyone over the age of 5 wears those.

Also, I hate hate hate Uggs! I own a few pairs that I refer to as my "Ugglies" but living in MA and taking public transportation to work, they're wonderful!

  • Mag, those things are terrible.

Also, I'm on the jumper bandwagon.  I saw one at New York & Co and I was just like W T F?  I had one when I was 9, I don't want to wear one at 32.

I think some gladiator sandals are okay, not all but some.

I don't like the scarf look.  I mean, it's summer, you don't need a scarf even if it is lightweight.  That's just stupid.

  • Gladiator sandals are just horrible. They've been popular for too long and just need to go away
  • I still see people wandering around with hair picks sticking out of the side of their heads... that was never cool. Ever.

Please find my 60 year old aunt and tell her this. She has been wearing a scarf every time I've seen her lately.

Mind you, we live in Texas. Like, south of Houston. It's hot.
  • I hate the wayfarer 80's glasses celebrities and trying-too-hard hipsters are wearing these days.  Theyre just so ugly and unflattering on most people.

  • I'm fully onboard with the scarf-in-summer thing.  I WANT to like them so bad because a lot of the summer scarves are just so pretty, but I can't.  It's 80 degrees.  I'm sweating.  I don't need a scarf, thanks.

  • The wayfarer look looks good on that guy in The Hangover. I think that's it.

I went to Sunglass Hut recently to find some new sunglasses, and I tried a pair on, and it was awful. It was a definite "no"
