Blu Ray Player Recs?

We want a Blu Ray player...specifically one that streams netflix. I just spend a FUCKING HOUR at Wally World talking to a tech geek who wouldn't help me with a BLU RAY player, but just kept telling me to buy a PS3. DORKY DOOD. I don't need a gaming system, I just want a fucking blu ray player? And? You don't HAVE any PS3's, so you SUCK at your job of selling stuff to people.

And, Aaron? I dont' care that your parents kicked your out of your house in Indiana and had to move here because this is the only family that would take you in, that you really need a cigarette, or how much RAM you have on your fucking CPU errrr something, and I'm not impressed by you having internet on your phone to help me look up blu rays online. I can do that my fucking self.

ANYWAY, any of you have a BRP you can recommend?

Re: Blu Ray Player Recs?

  • Our PS2 works great ;)

Seriously, though, it does.  It does the Netflix streaming and there's a PS2 store that you can rent movies from easily.  DH bought it for one of those Grand Theft Auto games but we solely use it now for blue rays.

Feel free to hit me now.
  • I HAVE a ps2. They don't play blu rays, do they?!

  • I love it when you yell.

Seriously, I just asked DH and he said Toshiba makes good BRPs generally.
  • Fishy, DH and I just gave this one to my parents for Christmas:

It doesn't state explicitly that it will let you download Netflix so you may need to spring for this one which is on Netflix's webpage and uses Netflix as part of its specs:

J&R is a reputable place as well...just in case you're interested in ordering it.

  • we have one by Samsung . It works well and we like it.
  • We have a Samsung one from Costco and love it. It streams netflix and pandora and we've had no problems with it.

  • We have a new Samsung player (I can't remember the exact model, but it was the second fanciest one at Best Buy). It was like $230 or something and it's awesome. It streams Netflix, Youtube, Blockbuster, and Pandora. LOVE! You have to get the HDMI cable with it for good performance though. They're really expensive at Best Buy, but you can get a good one on ebay for much less.

  • I know you don't want to hear this, fische, but the PS3 is a GREAT blu ray player. Sorry.....I only have that one.

  • Buy an HDMI cable from a place like NewEgg where you'll get a great deal, fast shipping and no hassles.

Whatever you do, DON'T buy the cable in the store.

We bought a Samsung Blu-ray player a couple years ago and the movie quality was excellent and the player itself was fine but since it was older technology it took so long to load that I actually hated watching blu-rays because of it. About six weeks ago we bought a new Samsung BD-P1600 that streams Netflix, Pandora, Youtube, and Blockbuster. I LOVE it. It is like night and day compared to our old player. It is so fast and I don't see how the quality could be better. I highly recommend it. FI is very up to date on all the current/future technology and he also loves this player and recommends it to anyone seeking a good player for a very reasonable price.

  • Does FI play any video games?  The PS3 really is one of the better Blu Ray Players.  Also, to get a really good one that isn't a PS3 is still going to cost you a pretty penny, so if it's just a little extra to get the gaming system... might as well.

  • PS3 has the best blu ray player out there, and it streams netflix.  If you don't want a PS3, the next best thing is a Sony.  Mr Stack did tons of research on this subject because he just couldn't comprehend that the PS3 really had the best blu ray player - it just didn't make sense to him but every avenue he researched led him back to the PS3.  We love it and the picture is amazing!!!!

Ditto this! We got 2 on Amazon for maybe $3. In the store, they charge up to $100. Don't waste your money!
