Brooklyn Wedding -- Transportation Thoughts?

Hi All!

My fiance and I are having our reception at Dyker Beach Golf Club in Brooklyn in August 2013. We're still determining as to whether we'll do the ceremony there as well, or a church nearby.

My question is --- transportation. For those who have planned NYC weddings, how did you handle making out-of-town guests feel comfortable in a big city? Any suggestions on bus or shuttle companies we can look into?

We still have some time to figure this out, but right now I'm thinking that we'll suggest a few nice hotels in downtown brooklyn (i.e. Brooklyn Bridge Marriott, Sheraton, and ALoft). If the ceremony and reception location end of being relatively nearby each other, we'll leave it to guests to get there themselves (we'll obviously provide ample directions and public transportation options, and the reception venue has complimentary valet parking). And then we'll arrange a bus or shuttle, as well as have a few car services on hand, for post-reception to take guests to an after party coordinated somewhere nearby the recommended hotels.

Does that make sense? Any insight or advice would be much appreciated!

Re: Brooklyn Wedding -- Transportation Thoughts?

  • I would try to have a hotel block for one or several of these hotels.  Instead of providing transportation for the after party I would provide transportation for the ceremony/reception.  I would then provide them (via a wedding website or invite) a pick up time.  Not everyone will want to attend the after party and some guests may want to leave the wedding early.  You can always provide them with the number of a car service that will take them to their hotel.  We did all of the above.  We had a room block for our guests in the city and provided rented a shuttle bus (via Romantique Limos) to the ceremony (which was in Bklyn) and to the reception (in Manhattan).  All our out of town guests left at different times and only two came to the after party, but all were able to get back to their hotel via cab.  I know they appreciated the transportation to the ceremony and reception.  BTW...Romantique was a bit pricier than some of the other places but they went above and beyond the call of duty.  Before the ceremony I had one limo guy holding my bouquet as another was fixing the train in my dress.  There were on time and extremely professional.  Good luck!
  • Well, the easiest way to go would be to get one of those buses, with an open air top or have it closed.

Then a lot of people in one bus, no need to worry about losing people and the journey is fun.

Greylines bus tours. it was 800 for the entire 4 hours or so? Not sure exactly, but for 50+ people its not so bad.
