Vaporizer vs Humidifier

My daughter has bad allergies and sinuses and was told a humidifier would help.  She bought a warm steam vaporizer.  Is this basically the same thing?

Because of this, there is a chance of spreading water laden with bacteria or molds into the room. Additionally, many water sources contain minerals and since the water isn’t boiled, minerals can be spread into the room, too. She'll probably need to put the vaporizer closer to her head in her room. A humidifier will eventually fill the room. The vaporizer will direct the steam more. Sometimes they have a little space for like Vicks or something, to ease congestion.

Humidifiers are awesome in the wintertime when the air is so dry. We just had a new AC and furnace installed, and the furnace has a humidifer on it. You'd think with 59 inches of snow, it wouldn't be dry, huh?
