how do you guys feel about tea length?

I'm looking at dresses and I really like tea length especially since I will have a spring/summer wedding. My friend says they aren't elegant enough but I really kind of like them. Example,

My girls wore them - take a look at my married bio.  I thought they looked great!  We had an afternoon wedding, though, so it wasn't super formal.

I love them for non super formal spring or summer weddings. Also I love that wedding dress!

I think they look terrible on me, but I have nothing against them in general.  That one in your link is pretty elegant, but I don't think tea length works for black tie, formal events (I could be wrong), so it depends on what kind of wedding you want.

Yeah, I was going to elaborate and agree with panda.  It would be odd if everything was uber formal, but as long as it goes with everything, I think they look great.

I agree with Panda. It depends on the formality of the wedding. Are you going for an elegant feel? I think that dress is super cute (though I would consider that more knee-length than tea-length, but maybe I'm crazy) and would definitely work for a semi-formal wedding. Honestly though, who the hell cares. If you want tea-length, do it. Get a dress that you absolutely love.

I think they look SO good on the women they look good on. Really, really good. But REALLY awkward on the women they don't look good on.

I'm short, and all of my shortness is in my legs. I have a really long torso for my height and REALLY short legs. I wore a tea length bridesmaid dress for my cousin's wedding and even with 4" heels, I looked stumpy and just weird. It didn't help that it was a halter, which always look like sacks of watermelon on me, but still.

The women who can pull them off look great in them but the women who can't really, really don't. As for formality/elegance, eh. Material and color have a lot to do with formality and elegance as well, and unless you're talking about floor-length or mini-skirt length, probably more to do with it than you'd notice with tea length.

elegant is not what I'm going for. I'm going for fun and small. he wants an outdoor reception. there is another I'm trying to post but it doesn't want to let me.

Oh, for you? And that dress? I would definitely say that dress is knee-length and not at all what I was thinking when you said tea-length (mid-calf, in my mind, and way harder to pull off for some people than just above the knee).

Cute dress, though, regardless of the length.

OP - you could also do a variety of styles and lengths.

I find floor length dresses to be a pain in the a$$ and I didn't want to put my girls through that.  I really didn't care what they wore, as long as it somewhat matched.  They all decided on the one color and I suggested the shorter length.

For a fun small outdoor reception, that dress would be very acceptable.  Though it does kind of look knee length to me, not tea length.  Maybe it's the angle she's standing at.

Julez wore a super hot short dress and it wasn't casual.  But it sounds like short will go with your feel very well.

Reading comprehension fail on my part. That's awesome, and definitely more knee length. Also, if your feel is fun and small, then do it! Julez did a short dress and it looked great.

If we had done the smaller, more low-key wedding that I wanted then I would have definitely worn a shorter dress. I think they are so fun! Based upon the fact that you want a "fun and small" wedding, then I would definitely say that the dress would be very fitting. If you aren't going for an elegant feel, then why get an elegant dress if you don't want to ya know? Julez wore one of the most beautiful wedding dresses that I have ever seen. I love it!

Love love love love love luuurve tea length dresses. I plan on wearing one myself. I've been drooling over the dresses over at http://www.dollycouture.com. I think that tea length dresses don't work with a white tie, uber formal wedding, but ours is going to be slightly casual. I actually think I look better in a tea length dress, being 5'2". I look like a short, squat, cream puff in most of the gorgeous gowns they have out there. I'd say it's better to try it on and see how you feel in it. That's the most important thing. Beautiful dress.

I'm working on posting the other one. I like this upcoming one more and its more classic to tea length. I'm not super tall, 5'6 but my length is in my legs and with heels I think I could pull it off. Obviously I would have to try them on first though.

Also, keep in mind that what looks knee-length on these (most likely) freakishly tall models may be more of a tea-length on shorter people.

The thing with ANY wedding dress is just trying lots of different styles on.  There are tons of girls on here who went in with one idea and wound up with the complete opposite.  I wouldn't lock yourself into to anything until you see it on.

Haha. Look at you counting all fancy. :) I need to count to 4 or I get all screwed up. I used to groan when my band music was in anything but 4/4.

7/8:  123, 12, 12 or 12, 12, 123

...you COULD count up to the top number, but sometimes it's easier to split it up like this when it's fast.
