I gave in and responded.  I waited about half an hour to calm down the snark, then I couldn't hold it in any longer.
  • I couldn't respond. I had nothing even remotely nice to say.
  • BUT ZOMG THE RADIATION FROM JAPAN HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY US ALL IN OUR BEEEEDZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
  • She lives in CA right?  In another few months it will hit there anyway?  Right?  That's what the Onion told me... they are never wrong.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • If I were to suggest opting out of the TSA screening in favor of the pat-down (helpful! anti-radiation advice!) but then add that she should probably include "tinfoil hat" in her packing list, would we consider that rude? Because really, the first part is helpful.
  • I consider ALL of that helpful Em. :)  But I'm probably not the best person to listen to in toned down snark advice. hehe
  • Haha, fair point.

I also just always think that people with these doomsday questions about how deadly other places in the world are must not travel much, so I really doubt she knows that there have been radiation concerns over the TSA machines.
  • The Honeymoon board is a large pile of crazy.  I'm awed by it.  Seriously.

There are other places to vacation in the world than AIs.  FOR REAL.

    <div>So true.</div><div>
</div><div>It's scary the lack of travel knowledge a lot of AI guests have.  Our resort is not AI,  but there is one on island and well,   lets just say more than half are interesting.</div>

They measured increased radiation levels in CA back when it happened. Not enough to freak out about, though.

Emily, I literally snorted at your comment in that thread.

And I admit, I'm one of those uncreative people going to an AI on my HM. But I've never been to one, so dammit, we're going once to see what it's like.
  • Emily - *high five* to the tin foil hat comment.

Oh, Leia, I think it's fine to go to an AI, especially for a HM.  A lot of brides just want to turn their brains off and relax after all the wedding prep.  However, it's pretty common knowledge that if you're looking for excellent food, you shouldn't go to an AI.  Decent food is one thing.  Gourmet food, you've got to go a la carte.
  • I have nothing against going to AIs (although I've never been myself and imagine them full of stereotypical "bad" tourists), but I do side-eye the posts asking for HELP! choosing an AI. The whole point of an AI is that it's basically the easiest thing in the world. Read some reviews on TripAdvisor or talk to a TA and just pick one. You don't need advice from other people for that kind of trip because it's just not that hard.

Get back to me when you have a somewhat challenging itinerary or need rec's for something that you can't easily find.
  • Yeah.  Nothing against AI either, really.  Just the questions surrounding them.

Maybe they read too much post-apocalyptic fiction and confuse it for reality. Amurca is the only safe/sane place! Other places are backwards and dangerous, but the natives might be cute.

Re: AIs. I've been on a cruise and that's probably close enough.

Yeah, but by virtue of deciding to do an AI, it kind of tells me you can't make a decision to save your life. If not for AIs, these people would spend 2 hours a day agonizing over where to go to dinner and whether to do a SCUBA dive or see some Mayan ruins.

  • I actually just went to Hawaii right after the earthquake. Not sure where you guys are from but over here on the West Coast there was A LOT of alarm in the media over the radiation making it's way here. There was constant refrences about Hawaii getting the brunt of the radiation so I can see why someone would ask.
