WR: Do you like this dress?

It's my FSIL's pick for a bridesmaid dress and I think I kind of hate it.  :3  (That said, I may be biased because I suspect the model is simultaneously both a vampire and a kindergarten teacher...)

If you could assure me that it isn't truly awful, then I could give her the go ahead to buy it and keep the peace in my future family.  TIA!

Re: WR: Do you like this dress?

  • Meh, it's not that bad, but it'll be REALLY bad if she has giant bazookas.
  • i like it and would have no problem wearing it. the only thing i don't like about it is the halter.

  • I like the shape but HATE the straps.  Could it be strapless?
  • that model's no vampire!

  • Well, I didn't like it until I covered the model's head.  Then I liked it.

I think the model is the problem.

    you made me lol

i actually like it, and i love halters, though the neckline is wierd.  if she loves it though, why not?  i vote to keep the peace.
  • i also read the OP wrong and originally thought YOU had to wear it. either way i still like it minus the halter.

  • That is actually on the dresses that my bridesmaids are looking at.

From the picture I never would have picked it, but we really liked it on.

Even a girl with big bazoombas!  Let me find a picture.
  • As far as bridesmaid dresses, I don't think it is bad at all!  However, that style dress flatters my body so that might be why.
    image
  • I like it minus the straps as well. I don't think a real person can wear straps like that without weird gappage.

    I <3 that color, FYI.
  • GAH!  I can't get to the pictures from here.  If you really want to see one, let me know and I can do it when I get home.

Seriously though, we all really liked this dress on.  For a while, I thought it might be picked multiple girls (I'm letting them pick their own dresses).
  • I like halters. I don't see anythingn objectionable about the dress. Length is nice. Halter is nice. Not too revealing.

She does!  She thinks the straight neck will de-emphasize them, but I think the halter straps kind of double as arrows.  LOOK!  LOOK AT THESE!

MattsPenguin -- that's a relief, kind of.  I think I might try to check it out IRL this weekend if I can make myself drive down to Tucson.

We're actually still debating between matching dresses and different dresses in the same color and fabric.  I really like my pick*, but FMIL has requested that my three bridemaids either (a) all wear the same dress or (b) all wear different ones.  She is emphatically not okay with two and one.  (Ironically, it's her daughter who is the odd one out!)

    I don't know.  I'm not convinced.

If she is, she's definitely more of a Nan Flanagan than a Rosalie Cullen.

  • (I should clarify.  I don't think she's ugly -- and wouldn't judge anyone's appearance -- but I do think the expression on her face is borderline terrifying.)

  • Celles - we are using Alfred Angelo dresses, knee/cocktail length, all chiffon.

These are the choices of my six girls (all different shapes and sizes)

  • It looks very similar to what "my" girls wore.

It came with little spaghetti straps.. but I um.. suppose you can guess what it looks like with a halter.. lol Considering they both have halter tan lines. :)

MattsPenguin:  We've narrowed it down to the same basic choices -- Alfred Angelo, short, chiffon -- but in "tealness" (which is darker than it appears in pictures).  I waffle back and forth on matching or non-matching; I think I'd be more inclined to go with non-matching if I didn't loathe my FSIL's top choice!  I believe you when you say it looks better in person, though.

  • I'm too indecisive to be allowed to plan a wedding.  :(

  • Actually, Celles, I like the first dress with the halter better than the one that's your choice.  I think the halter dress is a more forgiving cut for someone with stomach/love handle worries.

Yup.. The girl in the Orange is actually 6 months pregnant.. And it only really showed when she was sideways.

  • That's really lovely, Georgia!  I like the MOH (I'm assuming?) in that pale green, too!

I considered that second dress you posted, but then decided against chiffon (I wanted satin or taffeta, call me a 'zilla).

And I have a fairly formal and elaborate dress, but my girls are in cocktail dresses. FI told the woman at the tux shop that and she said they should do something that wasn't a "real" tux, like a suit, and I put my foot down. We ARE doing tuxes, I have a fairly elaborate dress, and my girls are wearing this:

    Edit: this is my dress:

  • Thanks, Celles. The reason the Matron of Honor's in green is because none of the blue options that she could get in time came in size 7-months-pregnant. So we had to do a little quick change a few months before, which was fine, except that the one beside her, Crazy Sister, had to have green on her dress too, since she was the self-appointed Maid of Honor and wanted to stand out. As if anybody looked at her. So my mom whipped her up a green sash out of tulle the morning of. Not that Crazy Sister is high maintenance or anything.
  • Mery, I like how the skirt on your BM's dresses is evocative of the pick-ups (I think they're called?) on your dress.  I have a similar attachment to the bling'd out sash I would pair with that second chiffon dress; it "goes" with the crystals embroidered into the trim of mine.

Both of your choices are stunning.

Thanks! Yes, pick-ups. The attendent at the bridal store said the ONLY cocktail dress she would pair with my dress was that one (which is one we were eyeing anyway). Whatever. I didn't want them in long dresses.

  • Celles, that's actually the dress all of my BM's decided on. It looked great on all 6 of them and it covered the boobs well too.

  • I really like the dress in the OP - I think they chose a bad model, though
