how to explain?

we aren't doing a traditional guest book; rather we are putting markers on the tables at the reception so our table cloths can be the guest book and re-used at our anniversary parties in the future. We are also setting up a video camera so friends and family can leave a message of their memories of myself or my future hubby and then later he and I can reminicse together.

However, I don't know how to explain what we are doing. Should I just make an announcement at the beginning of our reception or put cards or something on the tables?

Re: how to explain?

  • Perhaps you could put nicely framed instructions on the table, or make a "faux" guestbook table where the camera is, explaining what you'd like the guests to participate in/do?

Cards by the pens on the tables would be simplest.

I'd also suggest having your DJ direct guests to the video camera during the reception.  Any messages you get will be much funnier after people have had a few.

  • Uh, I hate to ask the obvious question but what if people spill all over the table?

Personally, I wouldn't want to keep tableclothes that people have spilled red wine and assorted food on.  Especially since you can't wash it correctly since you want the marker still there.
