kids, again!

Due to our venue and budget, we want to have an adults only reception. However, we have a lot of guests coming in from out of town and understand they will  bring their kids. With that said, we realize that we can not prohibit our local friends from bringing their children, which will add a significant number of people to our guest list. We thought about offering a babysitter service, but it would have to be offsite as the venue is an art gallery and doesn't have a separate room. How do we deal with this situation?

  • If you're going to post here, you can't be so sensitive that you want to delete your post. Some boards are harsher than others, so feel free to post elsewhere and mention you asked this elsewhere. But don't take what people say too personally.
  • If it's the cost that is the most hard-hitting (which it sounds like it is), have you looked into if the caterers have a kids' option?  These normally help cut the costs for their meals a lot.

I figure if you're having a babysitting service, you'll probably have to still cover their food somehow.  If there is a kids' menu, you might not need the service.
