Game Of Thrones?

H keeps bugging me to watch it... has anyone seen it? Is it any good?

Re: Game Of Thrones?

  • FI and I have seen the first couple episodes.  I'm not the era of history based in kings and queens and castles, but it's good.

  • I've only seen the first one. We don't have HBO and I can never find them online, so I'm just dying waiting for the season to end and it to come out on DVD =(
  • I won't talk about the ep but I will say that so far it is fantastic. And beautifully filmed. I'm also finding the changes that Martin made to the storylines interesting; apparently (from interviews) he regrets how he wrote some parts so he's changing them now.

  • Bah, well I guess I just have to cave and watch it then! Tongue out

  • Not really my thing. FI and friends have read the books & watch the show. From what FI has told me of the books, it's super violent...

  • Yeah, it's pretty much the best show ever. But I'm biased because my H and I have read the books. However we have 2 friends who never read the books and they now come over every week to watch it with us.

It's HBO, so there's lots of sex and violence. And lots of characters, so it might take you a little while to get them straight. But the plot is good, and the visuals are AMAZING.

It's sort of LOTRs-ish - it takes place in an alternate medieval sort of world. There are 7 kingdoms in Westeros, plus separate kingdoms across the Narrow Sea. The main characters are members of the royal family and one of the noble families that rules on of the 7 kingdoms.

I can imagine. It was supposed to be a trilogy at first. BUT I am trying to figure out if some things he's throwing in relate to some theories we have about how some plot lines end up. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

I'm loving it!  I really enjoyed the books and seeing the series on HBO makes it all come alive.

  • Ok, I'm a lurker and coming out just so I can tell you that it is amazing. I agree completely with Mandy when she says it is awesome, despite the fact that it's not really her style. I was really hesitant to watch it as I'm not big into fantasy or "royal intrigue" as you might call it, but after three episodes I am totally hooked.

Just as a heads up, the first episode is a bit confusing as it's mostly just set-up for the rest of the season. If you watch the next couple of episodes though, it is much easier to figure out what is going on.

  • We watched the first episode (we don't have HBO) and I thought it was really difficult to get into.  There's no set-up of who's who or what's going on.  I imagine that you'd kind of figure it out after watching a few episodes, but I was kind of lost on the first one.  It piqued my interest though, so we'll probably try watching the rest of the season when it comes out.

  • I think it's awesome, so far.  FI has read all the books, so he fills me in when I get confused about who's who.  I'm really looking forward to reading the books as soon as I finish Hunger Games.
