Ring Insurance

Hey Ladies, I know this is the etiquette board but I thought it would be a great place to get a lot of responses. So do you have your rings insured? If so through where? Has anyone gone through Jewelers Mutual?

Re: Ring Insurance

  • My ring is insured through our renter's insurance.
  • Same as pp. I use state farm for both. They charged $80/year.

  • Insured through homeowners insurance.  I think its about 50 bucks every 6 months?
  • OF COURSE YOU INSURE YOUR RINGS, for ONE.

Mine are insured through State Farm, same place I have all of my stuff in my life insured with.

  • Another vote for State Farm.  Adding them onto my existing policy costs me a whopping $1.23 a month.  For my e-ring, wedding band, and wedding jewerly (all real salt water pearls).

I added my ring onto my renter's insurance (Homesite is the company, they're affiliated with Progressive which is where I've always had my cars insured) and it's less than $2 extra a month. It covers not only theft but loss and damage. Whatever you decide to go through, make sure you're extremely clear on what is and isn't covered.

  • State farm as well.

  • Most homeowners and renters insurance companies will add a rider to specifically cover your ring if you ask.  I'd start with them - it may be cheaper than a whole new policy, and you already have a relationship with the company, or at least their rep.

  • Thanks ladies, I will look into getting it with our renters insurance first! Thanks for the advice!
  • Ours are insured through State Farm. I think for both my e-ring and wedding band and H's wedding band it's $100/year. Not bad at all IMO. I haven't heard anything bad about JM, but if you already have an insurance company for other stuff, I'd probably ask them about it. Perhaps it can be added on to your homeowner's/renter's insurance for a much better price.

  • We are with Erie Insurance.  Something to be sure to ask if you add it onto an existing policy (home insurance, for example) is if you lose your ring--will that ding your home insurance? The answer for me was "yes." So I insured mine with a separate policy--about $80 a year. She could have just added it onto our home insurance bill, but if, say, I lost my ring...then a year or two later, it lost a stone...that's two dings. After two dings, she can deny me further home insurance.

  • Another call for State Farm. I have just my e-ring insured right now, and it's $63/year.

  • I have mine insured through my renter's insurance with Progressive. The total cost is an extra $40 per year, and they insure against both loss and theft of either the whole ring or any indiviual stones (mine has a total of 13). They require a current (within the last 3 years) appraisal, and will cover that appraisal rather than wholesale. Plus I got a discount on both my renter's insurance and auto insurance for having them through the same company.

  • I went through Jewelers Mutual. Pretty happy with them so far.
  • We bought my e-ring from Kay Jeweler's and it came with lifetime insurance. I just have to go to a local Kay's every 6-months where they give it a "check-up," which basically entails them cleaning it and making sure the settings are still secure. I do have to make a special trip right now, because the closest Kay's is 45 minute drive, but worth it because we don't have to pay anything extra. Unless you count the gas driving there and back. :) Eventually we'll be moving to a town that has one closer, so really no big deal.
