[QUOTE]I don't mean to scare you! I don't know many people who've had it that rough before. I think I just had a shiitty oral surgeon. I had an uncommon insurance and used the only  surgeon in a 50 mile radius who took it. If I had a choice, I would have gone elsewhere. Honestly, with a good surgeon, you should be healed up enough to enjoy your wedding pain free.

Oh don't worry! I know its probably uncommon. I am just a little bit of a worrier when it comes to medical procedures. I watch too many doctor shows haha.

  • Also, are you sure you get insurance the day you start your job?  I know I had a grace period when I started my job of 60 (or 90...can't remember exactly) days until I was eligible.  Which would put it off another 3 or 4 months.  Could you take the pain that long?

My offer letter says that I am eligible the first day of the month following or coinciding with the date of hire. So I guess at most I would have to wait until Aug. 1.

You mentioned in an earlier post that you don't do well on pain meds...  I don't want to freak you out, but thought I should give you a heads up.

I have the same problem.  If you do the surgery before the wedding, try not to take pain pills at all afterwards.  I know it'll make the recovery process hurt a heck of a lot more, but trust me.  I took pain pills even though I know they make me sick.  I threw up so much that I ripped out the stitches and it took me weeks to recover.  I'd suggest the natural route and do everything you can to help the healing process go faster. I had yellow bruised cheeks and was super swollen for 2 weeks after the surgery.

Something to keep in mind if the dentist suggests takking it out right away.

  • Sounds like its not that bad. Mine were NOT impacted and were poking through. I still had to see an oral surgeon to have them pulled but I just had local and the nitrous (aka laughing gas). I was in and out pretty quickly... I ate a limited diet for a few days but as far as recovery I was up and at 'em the next morning and just taking ibuprofen because the surgeon gave me Tylenol with Codene which made me really sleepy.

Chances are that you won't be able to get into an oral surgeon within 2 weeks anyway unless your Dentist says its an emergency or if he can do it right there.

I think you need to let the Dentist make the decision. Just tell him what you are up against. I'm sure he will know what is best.

This, pain meds usually make me throw up too. I once had oral surgery for something else in my mouth and I got sick of the pain meds. I also used to get migraines and the meds they gave me once also made me throw up.

Yeah I think you are right. I don't think its impacted, just seems to be coming out. I will listen to the dentist and hopefully it all works out. Just not what I want to be dealing with right now haha, but life is funny that way.

Only your dentist can truly give you your options. We're a bunch of strangers on an internet forum. I'm no dentist (and I don't know anyone else here who is), so I can't tell you what to do.

I do know that top teeth are better/quicker at healing than the bottom teeth. I only had my two top teeth removed (no bottom wisdoms) and was awak through most of the removal and moving around a day or so later.

    Talk to your dentist.

I know you all aren't dentists, but I was looking for what people would do in my situation if given the choice to wait or have it done before the wedding. I can't imagine they are going to force me at the dentist's office since it really isn't that bad, but obviously I will listen to their recommendation. And it is my bottom one.

  • Either try to do it TOMORROW or wait. I had 2 out on a Friday, was basically fine by Monday (went to work, not on many pain meds), but still had to eat soft foods (smoothies without a straw, soft tortillas with black beans, soups, oatmeal) for almost a week.

  • I would get it done ASAP.  I wouldn't want to risk having to have it right before the wedding or being in pain for the wedding and HM.

I had two top teeth and one bottom tooth pulled (only the bottom was impacted).  I also don't do well with narcotic pain killers, but I was fine with 800 mg ibuprofen for a couple of days, and my recovery was generally pretty easy.  My surgeon gave me an IV anti-inflammatory during the procedure, and I think that helped a lot, because I had almost no visible swelling.
