Veil HALP

This is going to be a sort of a post and run because I have to leave for the airport in half an hour.

I DIY'd an elbow-length drop veil to go with my dress. When I finally tried the two on together, I realized that the veil gets majorly caught on the rhinestones around the neckline.

It's pretty important to me to wear a veil with a blusher -- it's just how I'd always pictured myself getting married. But that veil is definitely going to get caught on the dress as my dad tries to lift it up.

So what do you think I should do? Change the veil somehow? Wear a birdcage  instead? Crack a joke when it inevitably gets caught on my dress?

How bad is the catch?  If it sticks, but doesn't take an army to move, I think it should be fine.

The prongs on the rhinestones just get stuck in the netting. I can usually free them in a few seconds or so.

I'd just practice a few times to make sure you can handle it, then be prepared for it to happen at the ceremony.

Hmm,  I guess I could give it a shot.

I've been nervous about messing with it too much for fear of actually tearing it, but that's kind of dumb since it's $2 of tulle. Maybe I should make a backup one just in case it does tear.

Or can you fluff the top of your head to make it not touch the rhinestones?

Ew. No fluff. That was the entire reason for making a drop veil.

I've heard you can rub rhinestones on shoes with wax or cover them with clear tape to keep them from catching on your dress crinoline, but I'm not sure if that would look weird or not.  Maybe ask on the Attire board to see if anyone's done it?  I've definitely heard of it over there.

Could you remake a veil out of a fabric that won't catch, like a really sheer organza? Or would that be too much work?

No, it's not that much work, but I'm a leetle short on time...I definitely didn't think about how much the holidays would suck the life out of the last month before the wedding. I'll try to scope out some fabric stores this weekend, though.

Can you put something on the spot on the veil where it gets caught?  Like, a ribbon, or a rhinestone on the veil, etc?  Something so that the netting can't make contact?

Can you just make the front of the veil shorter? 

Or try clear nail polish over the rhinestones?

Or keep practicing?  Maybe lift the front of the veil outward, before your dad goes to lift it up.

I would make it shorter or perhaps reconsider wearing one- the last thing you want is for the veil to catch and rip, or for the dress rhinestones to fall out after the prongs get bent.
