There is this salad at a Mediterranean place here.  They call it Mediterranean salad.  It has cucumber, tomato, a little onion, a little olive oil and some spices.  I don't know what the spices are or the proportions.  Is this an actual thing or did the restaurant make it up?

Sounds like a traditional Greek Village Salad but it could be loads of things.

When I make it I use:
 - cucumber
 - red onion
 - kalamata olives
 - hothouse tomatoes

And then the dressing is:
 - olive oil
 - lemon juice
 - oregano (dried)
 - salt & pepper

Do you have measurements for that Alix?

If the dressing didn't taste like it had lemon in it, it may have been substituted with red wine vinegar.

It's generally one part lemon or vinegar, three parts EVOO and salt, pepper and oregano to taste.

3/4C oil
1/4C vinegar or fresh squeezed lemon juice
1tsp oregano
salt and pepper to taste

No, it's not made up. 

But I prefer to add olives, feta cheese, and maybe some of those pepperoncini peppers.

Let me rephrase, I knew it was a real recipe.  I just didn't know the name or where to find quantities for it.

That's a pretty standard salad for either southern Italy, Spain or Greece.  lol, yes, all three are on the Mediterranean and the contents of the salad grow well there. 

I think that the cheeses you add to it makes the region.  Feta -= greece, hard parm slices = Italy, Tapas = Spain

Tapas are small hors d'oeuvres or appetizers, no?

Granted, I'm not all too well versed in quite a few cheeses (I think intensely disliking them led to not paying attention) but I don't think that's a cheese I've ever heard of before.
