Anyone around?

Re: Anyone around?

  • Ouch, Daff. HVAC units aren't cheap.  I'm hoping we have a few more years on ours.  Sometimes I wish we were still renting, this homeowning ish is for the birds.

Oh my Daff...I sure hope it's less than that to fix.
  • I don't really know that it'll be that much. Our HVAC maintenance company mentioned that a couple of years ago, I think. But I've been googling around a little and I'm getting the impression anywhere from 3 to 6 grand. If homeownership has taught me anything, the price tag is always much higher than I expected. Ugh,
  • I'm sorry to hear that Daff. I hope it runs closer to the 3k than the 6k : (
  • I want to find a house, but H wants to wait a year. I get why he does, but I am so tired of renting and not having our own home.
  • FI is really against renting. He doesn't like paying monthly for something you won't eventually own. I totally get that, but buying isn't always an option for people. He's renting our flat now, because he owns his own business and the banks won't acknowledge that as a form of income until it has been running for 3 years. He wants to buy as soon as he can get approved for a mortgage.

I'm nervous at the thought of buying in England. I am by no means an expert on the housing market in this country, but at least I kind of know what's what. I think I'll feel totally lost over there.
  • You live in England Pokepoke? That's pretty exciting! How long have you been there?

    I don't live in England yet : (

FI lives there. I'm moving there after the wedding, pretty much as soon as the visa goes through.

I guess it's "his" flat until I get there, but he always says "our" flat when talking about it so I'm in the habit of doing that as well.

I'm really nervous about the move. I've spent the past two summers there, so it's not like I'm stepping into something TOTALLY new. But visiting and living are to different things - KWIM?

    *Edited for spelling*
  • Yeah, that makes sense. Sorry, I got sucked into True Blood. :)

Very cool, strange and exciting all at once! I totally understand talking about it as both of yours. FI calls his apartment "ours" all the time but I've never even spent the night there before.
  • Yeah, I've been watching "Who the bleep did I marry?" lol

I think it's sweet that he is so ready to "share" everything. It gives me the warm fuzzies : )
