*Stackeye*

I just noticed that you're in Columbus!  I lived there for 6 years, and sometimes I miss it a lot, at least when its not buckeye football season.

I mostly miss the food, particularly Northstar.

<--just sayin' hi!

Re: *Stackeye*

  • ::butting in::

I am a Buckeye fan through marriage and when H and I first got together all he could talk about was Columbus. Something about a Thurmond burger was repeatedly stated. I have never heard of Northstar. Do I need to rib my H for this?

  • No, northstar is a newer (2004 ish) establishment, and is all organic, health food, stuff.  My FI doesn't like it.

Yes, the Thurman burger.  It was on Man v. Food.  Its intense.  I've never eaten it (I don't eat hamburgers!) but it's a lot of meat!

Buckeye fans are one of a kind.  I'm a Michigan fan, so I'll always have a little animosity towards the Buckeyes, even though I techincally am a Buckeye as well (ducks in a corner)
  • <------  From the 'Nati and definitely not a Buckey fan!  (BOILER UP)

Though I do like that new Buckeye flavor at Graeter's.  I feel like a traitor when I eat it though.
  • Well hello!  I've lived her all my life and never heard of NorthStar.  LOL.  I'm assuming that's in the Short North or UA?  What area of town did you live in when you were here?

WM - Thurmond Burger - tasty!  I'm not sure I could become a Buckeye fan by marriage, it's a whole new level of crazy that I probably couldn't handle if I wasn't born here.

My favorite hole in the wall joint - Nancy's, but only on Thursday.  chicken and noodles over a heaping pile of mashed potatoes.  Apparently I like starch.
  • I lived for 2 years down the street from the big Graetar's........it's by far my favorite ice cream EVER!
  • Shh . . . don't tell anyone, but we're having Graeter's at our wedding!  It's like my #1 thing that I wanted.  I worked there throughout high school.

Rasberry Chocolate chip and peanut butter chocolate chip........man the chocolate just melts in your mouth.  I love when you get an extremely large chunk of chocolate that didn't get ground up.  It's like the prize in the cracker jacks times 18.
  • Nothstar now has 3 locations:  Short North, Clintonville, and I think they opened one up at Easton.  I lived in Grandview and then Gahanna.  I don't miss being out in the 'burbs, at all!  I do miss my friends there, though. But I only moved down the road an hour and a half so I still go up to cbus all the time!

Love Graeters (that's a cincinnati thing!)

HI Matt's Penguin.  Are you living in Cincy currently? I see you post on our local board sometimes, but I thought you were OOT.

I remember Nancy's.  It closed before I moved.  It is/was a Clintonville legend.

What part of town are you in?
  • I grew up on the northeast side Worthington/Westerville area, but now I live in Canal Winchester.  I work in Grandview.  If T's parents didn't live so close to us I'd love to live in Grandview, the houses are so cute and I love 5th ave/Grandview Ave - the atmosphere within the community is so great there.

    ahhhhhmaaazzing the giant chips!

We are renting out a skyline chili for our RD; every kind of chili, and also bringing in larosa's pizza (cincinnati thing, real sweet sauce) and graeter's for dessert! yum!  I may be more excited for this than the actual wedding!

Damn that's a commute!  I loved Grandview, too.  Its so quaint.  Our new neighborhood in Cincy is similar.
  • That RD sounds so good.

I was sad about Nancy's, I'd much rather have paid $7 for a meal instead of $5 just to have her keep it open.
  • Peanut butter chip, oh yeah!  I used to take spoonfuls of it at work (we could eat whatever we wanted while we worked).  Thank goodness I was in marching band at the time or I would have gained like 20 pounds!

Parker, yeah, I'm in Boston.  But we're getting married in my hometown.  And having a very Cincy wedding.  Reception at Paul Brown, Graeter's ice cream, and just booked the Boathouse for the rehearsal dinner!  I'm all about Cincinnati!   Now I want some Greater's!

Tony Kornheiser called it out the other day on PTI (pardon the interruption) as his favorite ice cream of all time!  Sigh . . .

Oh, well he graduated Ohio State in 2004 and he hates anything that resembles health food, so there's that.

And being a Buckeye fan by marriage was tough at first, but since my lovely alma mater didn't have a football team (Virginia Commonwealth University) I have lots of football mania saved up. And yes, now I am supposd to dislike you, but I'll let it slide.

AWESOME!!  Whenever we go to Cincy, my FI always has to have Skyline and Graeter's.  Although some believe Cincinnati chili to be an acquired taste.   I love it!  I buy the spice packets at Gold Star in the airport and make my own at home.

Aw, thanks.  T and I spent an entire day drinking beer and listening to old songs, we'd take turns finding something to play for the other person........when we found that one there was no question we were going to use it somehow.  We're both kind of saps for some old school R&B, soul type music.  Grown folks music as he calls it.
  • I am too.  On a recent drive up to Cbus, i found the old school R&B radio station.  98.9 i think?  Cincinnati doesn't have anything like that.

Do you have any other ideas for must-play old school R&B songs?  My parents and I love that kind of stuff, FI is much more into classic rock and jam bands, so I'm trying to put some of our flavor into our playlists (for band intermissions)

Then I would not recommend going there next time you visit.  If you have to adopt any football team, OSU is probably the best one to adopt. Their fans are pretty crazy, and they have been very good in the past few years.
  • 98.9 is great!  I'm so mad at myself for deleting my song list I had made for the DJ.

OH WAIT, I just found an old email that had it attached.  Here was our must play songs that we wanted to DJ to put on his playlist and then we just told him to do whatever in between.  It was a pretty good mix of old/new and fast/slow.

“Spend my life with you” – Eric Benet

“Ain’t No Other Man” – Christina Aguilera

“The way you make me feel” – Michael Jackson

“How Sweet it Is to be loved by you” – James Taylor

“Waiting for Tonight” – Jennifer Lopez

    “Crazy In Love” – Beyonce

     “I’ll be There” – The Jackson 5

“Always be my Baby” – Mariah Carey

“Love of my Life” – Brian McKnight

     “Angel Of Mine” – Monica

    “Green Light” – John Legend f/Andre 3000

“Here and Now” – Luther Vandross

“Power of Love” – Luther Vandross

“For the Love of You” – Isley Brothers

“I wanna dance with somebody” – Whitney Houston

“One in a Million” – Aaliyah

“Love will never do without you” – Janet Jackson

“My Boo” – Usher and Alicia Keys

“The Power of Love” – Celine Dion

     “Promise” – Ciara

“Looking For You” – Kirk Franklin

Yeah, H promised me one time he would take me to a game, but I don't see how that's going to happen after he explained how hard it is to get tickets. He has a huge sticker on his car, it's on his license plate, license plate holder, he had a lamp, a bear, 15 t-shirts, 2 sweatshirts, etc, etc. We have a flag pole outside our door and I'm going to buy a flag to fly as an early b-day gift so he can show the whole neighbor that ours is a Buckeye home next football season. If didn't love me before, he will when he gets his flag!

    TRUE STORY!  he will.
  • yup to the flag.

Hahah danity kane!  I think that song and the Justin beber song sound alike.  Both are super cheesy!   I love the Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston songs, and am definitely getting inspiration from your list!
  • It's hard to get the juices flowing when you're picking out songs - I finally got to the point (which was after this list was written) to keep a pen and pad with me and write down songs as I heard them each day.  It helped a lot.  I also spent a lot of time on You Tube and would pick a song and then look for other songs that that poster might have uploaded, they usually gave me good ideas for another artist or song to search for
