Doesn't happen very often, but today is actually a Happy Monday morning..

Wow.... I went to bed at 10pm last night.  I woke up a 4am for no reason and checked my phone as I heard it go off a lot last night.  We are suppose to get some bad weather so I figured it had something to do with that.

Imagine my surprise when it said, OBL buried at sea.  WHAT??  Quickly check my emails for breaking news.   I can't believe it. He's dead.  Going back to sleep was not an option, so I've been watching BBC news online.

I can't wait to wake up DH and tell him the news.  He lost a bunch of friends/neighbors in the WTC attacks.

Anyway, DH leaves tomorrow for NOLA.  Please send your job vibes to him.

Have a good Monday.

  • Good Morning!

We got a call at 8 last night saying FI has to leave at 7am for a water rescue deployment with work in Tennessee for a week. So he gets to go help rescue animals caught in the storms that went through there. It'll be the first time we've been apart since we started dating. Kind of sucks, but I'm super excited he gets to do it. I'm signing up to volunteer with the organization this week and going to a training next year so hopefully we can go together in the future.

Also, have to take one of my dogs to the vet. He has about scratched all the hair off his butt, and he doesn't have fleas.

    Happy job vibes lynda!

Good morning!  Lynda I woke up to a text that said, "Obama got Osama" this morning.  I was so confused until I turned on the news.  For once, it's a good feeling about what's going on over there.  It's a large victory - and you know what's a tiny victory among this?  They had to interrupt Celebrity Apprentice for the news conference.  Yea, that's right, shut the f*ck up Donald Trump!
  • Andplusalso - Good job vibes for NOLA tomorrow.
  • Good morning!  Holy shiit.  I can't believe this.

I love that Obama is mentioning, again and again, that the US is not fighting the Nation of Islam, and that he separates the religion from the man.  That is great.  I know it won't stop Al Qaida from attacking again, but I'm glad that he said it.

I'm still in pjs.  Gotta get up and get going.

  • Lots of good vibes for your DH's NOLA trip.  I hope all goes well for him.

I always fall asleeep in front of the tv (with one of my kitties, of course!) and DH woke me up to tell me OBL was dead.  Then when I got up at 4:45 this morning I saw the headline that he had been buried as sea.

Being in the military, I know a ton of people in Afghanistan, and last October I had to do a casualty notification for a family who lost their 20 year old son there.  I know we won't just pull out, but lets get things moving in the right direction and get our kids home soon.

    Navy Seals freaking rock.
  •

I'm up early despite the fact that I didn't get to sleep until around 4:00 AM

So much news to watch last night, I lost track of the time.

so, I'm up, showered, shampooed and watching TV.  Yeah, I need more stimulation

Good job vibes for Lynda's H!

  • Good morning. I woke up really anxious this morning because stupid me decided to check my work email from home yesterday. I thought I had dropped the ball in a big way and I was freaking out about it. I got to work and decided to check my sent email and I only dropped the ball a tiny bit by not following up. But at least I sent the initial email!f

You know, I just feel icky about the whole OBL thing. I just can't feel as happy as my FB friends do about this. I'm scared about retaliation and the only thing I'm concerned with is getting our friends and families home. In my mind, he was a sleeping dog. I'm afraid of what we woke up. And not to mention, it feels squicky to be so psyched about someone getting a good head shot.

But something that interests me: I heard on the radio that they have buried him at sea for religious reasons? Why are we worried about that? We did just KILL him after all, seems like all considerations are out the window? And we did DNA testing to confirm who it was for sure? Where did we get the DNA to compare against? This could all be hearsay, I have yet to actually read it since I just heard about it this morning.

  • off to work ladies... Kind of a long day.  Although I do have somewhat of a break between 11-1:30.

    Have a good one.

  • LVB, they say have some of his clothing that they got the DNA from, but even if they didn't, he's #17 out of 50 kids!  I'm sure not all 50 love him enough to protect him.  One of the 50 would be willing to cough up a cheek swab.

  • LVB, I was worried about the same thing, but they did confirm the ID that it was him.

The burial at sea was in respect to his Muslim background, which states that a deceased body must be buried within 24 hours of the death.  He was buried at sea so that his resting place couldn't become a shrine to terrorism or Al Qaida.

I'm glad they caught him, I wish that he'd come alive so he could have been tried before a world court, but there was no way he would do that.  He was never going to give himself up alive.

  • I wish people on facebook would realize that for the most part I don't give a shiit what they are thinking about Osama.
    image
  • I sound like a cvnt for saying that. I am aware.

I am getting over myself quickly don't worry.

  • I know the Muslim reason they buried him withing a day, but it's just ironic to me that they'll kill him (decidedly not within Muslim law) but obey other parts. But I like that since they did do it, they did it at sea for the reasons stated. Very smart.

Baystate, you beat me to it about burying Bin Laden at sea. LVB, eye-to-eye. I feel really squicky about celebrating someone's execution. I'm also (perhaps irrationally) REALLY glad my sister and her family are safely back from their trip to Lebanon.

And listening to the analysis on NPR this morning has changed my older daughter's career aspirations. Last week she wanted to be a vet. Today she wants to be a CIA operative.

ETA: job vibes to Mr. Lynda for NOLA!

  • Stack, European markets were up, oil futures and gold were down (according to NPR's Marketplace Morning Edition).
  • I'm not so keen on all of the coverage of street celebrations over this.  For one, it's fuel to the fire.  Two, I think it's too early to celebrate.  This isn't over.

  • And singing "Hey Hey Goodbye"....eh. As I said I just want to get our friends and family home. That and monitoring the countries safety should be our priority.

  • You guys wanna play dress rosie?

My b-party is Friday night. A wine tasting and then dinner at my favorite restuarant. Maybe bar hopping afterwards but probably not.

I was thinking either this top:

    Whatcha guys think?

  • Generally speaking, I would have been squicked out by a head shot or an execution, but I can't help but feeling relief.  Maybe it's my primal feelings of revenge. I am sort of surprised he wasn't tried either, but maybe we didn't want to give him the platform for a defense.

I can't remember where I saw this, it was on some news article in the comments, but someone wrote "I demand proof!"  A respondent wrote "Would you like to see the long-form death certificate?"
