When do you send out STDs?

The Knot timeline says 6-8 months but only one family is traveling from out of the area so I don't think it needs to be urgent. I would skip it but my sister has offered to do them for me for free. Our engagement session is next month. When should we send them out?

Since you don't have many people traveling and it's not a holiday weekend, you can get away with sending them 4 months before the wedding. You probably don't need them at all. 

4-6 is typical. It might be increased to 6-12 months if you have a lot of people traveling or it's a holiday weekend.

6-9 is typical. Anything less than 5-6 months is somewhat useless.  Invitations typically go out around the 2 month mark. There is really no reason to send out STD at 4 months and then invites barely 2 months later.
