NWR, just a blizzard related vent.

No one at my job is answering the phone (I think they closed early) so I have no way of knowing whether or not we're going to be open tomorrow. I can't call early because I'm scheduled to come in at the same time in the morning as my manager. So I literally have to drive tomorrow morning in the blizzard to find out whether or not I have work. What a waste. I'm really scared to drive in the bad weather.

Anyone else already sick of the snow?

  • I'm sure I would be sick of it if we were home right now. But we barely got a dusting today.
  • The snow doesn't bother me all that much, it's the ice. especially the black ice.  Scary stuff.

  • Ice is no good. We have a gravel driveway so it's hard to shovel without displacing all of the gravel. We can't get all the way down like we would on a concrete/asphalt drive. I'm just hoping that what we had to leave doesn't turn into ice overnight.

  • I don't know much snow I've gotten so far but I'm 90% sure I'll work from home tomorrow.  The office is 70 miles away, one way and it's just not worth it when I am fully capable of working in my pj's.

Now the puppy is afraid of the snow and hasn't gone potty outside in it yet.  We keep going out every 20 minutes and NOTHING.  Sigh.

  • Pink - my dream property is for sale.  It has a heated barn and would be perfect for starting my little rescue.  It's a friend of the family's house and I.want.it.  My dog would think she died and went to heaven with 5 acres all to herself.

  • If you buy it, hire me? How much are they asking for 5 acres?  H is trying to buy 15 acres of land in upstate NY, the owner is only asking for 10K.  But it would be a bad place to run a rescue since they currently have 7 feet of snow!

  • Ha. I am so dense.  I'm lurking on Pets and someone posted something like: adorable baby doxie clothes and I clicked the link thinking: ohhhh cute clothes for my little doxie hotdog doggggg.  But no.  It was actual baby clothes with little doxies on them.

  • Well it's 450K, but it's got a big house and everything.  I've loved this house since I was 10 years old.  I wasn't expecting her to put it up for sale for a few more years, but she just lost her last horse and decided to move down by her sister in TX.  So if we could see the house we have now.... Maybe she'll let me rent it :)

  • Yeah, I would have thought the same thing :)

  • The heated barn is a must have.  We should start fundraising for the money to purchase it!

The shelter did a take a dog home for holidays event (based on the book, a dog named Christmas) and anyone could foster a dog for Christmas  (from the 23rd -26th).  Anyway 7 people adopted the dog they fostered which is phenomenal,  I'm so excited for them.

  • This damn credit card debt just keeps coming back to bite me in the ass.  We could rent out our townhouse and purchase another house, but no, stupid credit cards.
And that is awesome about the adoptions!  I really want to get back into rescue.  I had a big falling out with the group I was with.

  • I was just going to ask you what the shelters were like in Chicago.  There is a lot of drama within the group I work with but I stay out of it.  I only like to hear the stories about people dumping & running otherwise I don't want to know.

  • Well, shiit, if I had found this guy, I could have sold it and been all set: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-meth-cab-passenger-20101226,0,7404452.story?track=rss
I usually stay out of the drama as well, but this directly affected a former foster of mine.  Short version:  cat adopted.  Cat got out of adoptive house, picked up and returned to rescue.  I was not notified.  Place in new foster home.  Cat escapes foster home.  Group refuses to send out blast email with pic, put pics up at vets, etc.  They were afraid original adopter would see (she was never notified they found him since she didn't report him missing).  So I did it myself.  Had a good lead, but never recovered him.  Adopted the cat I was fostering and left the group.  So basically they put their fear of previous adopter finding out over searching for the cat with all their available rsources.  He should have been returned to me to foster as is common procedure.
So... I want to volunteer with PAWS Chicago now, so I'm looking into that.
