very quick TY note question

If people brought things like wine, flowers, a bar of chocolate to your engagement party, did you write thank you notes for those?

No one in this circle has ever written me a thank you note for a birthday/christmas gift or anything, so I don't want them to think it's weird, but I also don't want to be rude. Would a thank you e-mail be a good compromise?

Re: very quick TY note question

  • i did...but included how i was so glad they were there to celebrate and how lucky we are to have them in our lives, especially during this exciting time.

always better to err on the side of caution :)

  • I wouldn't email it.  Write a short thank you note.
  • Thank you; I really should have known this one.

I was trying to stretch out "Thank you for the delicious chocolate bar" and it sounded crazy, but I forgot about just thanking them for coming and being our friends.
  • oops ya...i meant i sent an actual TY note thru the mail...not email.
  • I agree, send a note thanking them for attending, and tell them how much their friendship means to you.  If they brought a bottle of wine, good to throw in that you "can't wait to enjoy the bottle of wine!" or that you "really enjoyed sharing the chocolate bar on a rainy afternoon" -- good to acknowledge their thoughtful gesture, no matter how minor.
