So WHY did you get married (REAL married btw) if you don't think it counts?
  • Options
    Brooke, whatcha drinkin?
  • Options
If you don't count it and it wasn't a real wedding, why do you use the word husband?

You sure want to have your cake and eat it too. Sorry toots, it's over. YOU ARE ALREADY MARRIED.

I just don't understand why you didn't wait to get married. And I'm having a suspicion this might have gone better for her if she had posted over at the Military Brides section...

You do know that most insurance companies require you to sign up within 60 days of a qualifying life event, don't you?  So... when you do get around to having your "real wedding," you won't be able to change insurance (health/dental/life) because your marriage certificate will have your "wedding-but-not-really" date on it.  You'll have to wait for open season, which, for some insurances, don't happen at a regular interval.

OH dear Jesus this is the stupid thing I've ever read. (Seriously, sarcasm in that sentence was minimal.. stupidest, or near stupidest.)

You're married Babycakes, no two ways about it. And forever after, when the government, health insurance, homeowners, etc. etc.wants to know your wedding credentials, you're going to have to go through ^that long winded make-me-hyperventilate explanation again and again.
And just to be clear, trying to explain to perfect stangers that you live in an illusion where your wedding day was not really your wedding day ( ? boggles my mind, but I digress) makes you sound, to say it most politely, a tad confused.

Now that this is off my chest, no you can't justify asking for MORE gifts. Did you ever consider that your family asked if you were having a shower just to prepare themselves to spend yet MORE money on yet MORE gifts? More out of trepidation than actual desire to have a shower? That would be my first thoughts in your situation. Having a shower, or allowing anyone to throw one, would look greedy. Not classy. Enjoy your vow renewal.
    * if you could only see the way he loves me : maybe you would understand : if you could only see how blue his eyes can be when he says : when he says he loves me

I think if your friends and family want to throw you a shower, then they should.
However, I don't know if registering is appropriate. The people who want to give you a gift will- and the people who don't, shouldn't feel obligated to get you one either.

I get that you want to have the "real" dress and have the big celebration, and there is nothing wrong with that, but technically it wouldn't be called a wedding.

Celebrate with friends and family and enjoy yourselves, like I said people who want to bring gifts will, but don't expect them.

I know it was asked.. but I am just very confused.. WHY DID YOU GO TO A JOP?
You got married, but didn't seem to want any of the benefits that come along with it.  So why didn't you just push back you wedding date?
The girls on here were not at all rude in the beginning.. they poked fun at you later.. because you antagonized them... but they gave you very honest opinions.  Not a single person agreed with you- this should tell you something.
My advice.. invite only CLOSE family/friends.  If you make you invite list too big.. you will get a TON of these comments being said about you by your guests.

I get you want your big wedding date.  I want it too... I also knew I wanted to marry my FI for 3+ years now.  I waited.. so I get to have all the festivities.  You chose not to wait - there are consequences for that decision.

If I get an invitation to a "wedding" 2 years after the couple already got married, I'd be so confused. "What the? But huh? I thought they were already married?"

This, and then I would make fun of them ruthlessly, RSVP no and not send a gift.  Because I probably got a gift already for the REAL WEDDING.

Like pp's asked....why did you get married?  If you didn't even utilize the benefits what was the point?
