Thank You note etiquette

I'm starting the task of writing all of the thank you cards for the wedding today. Most of our guests gave us money for gifts, and I'm at a loss for how to word my thank you. Is it OK to just come out and say "thank you for the money"? I feel like putting "thank you for your generous gift" makes it seem like I am writing the same thing on every note without personalizing it. Any advice? What did you write?

We wrote "thank you so much for the generous gift" and then wrote a line or two about what we planned to do with it (i.e. saving for landscaping for our new patio, or how my H couldn't wait to get some new tools for his workshop, etc) based on who the money was from.

Ditto Dani. You should personalize it to say what you're planning on spending the money on.

"Thank you for attending our special day, and thank you for your generous gift. We are hoping to get a new bedroom suite." or something like that.

I thanked people for traveling to the wedding, thanked them for the generous gift, and mentioned something we were likely to use it for. 

(Because of moving, etc., we had a big gap between when I wrote the notes and when we were going to be able to use the gifts.)

Even if you write "thank you for the generous gift" in every single thank you note, who is going to know but you? I did this and still included what we were spending the money on, which personalized them, but they were all basically the same anyways. It's not like people are going to compare thank you notes.

Ditto WaltzingMatilda.  No one knows what is in other people's thank you notes.  We're writing a bit more about how great it was to see them at the wedding, and thanking them for their generous gift, but not really mentioning what we're going to use the money for.

Ours included a thank you for attending, some reference to something that happened that day or something else more personal, thank you for the generous gift, what we intended to use the money for -- a dining room table --which segued nicely  into how we hope to be able to invite them for dinner in our new home soon.

The order varied, depending on exactly what we were writing writing, but most of those elements were in every thank you. His thank yous were written very similar to mine.
