Need some vibes

FI is having his annual review at work today. This job has been kind of a rough fit for him since the beginning. He's doing IT, network security consulting, at an accounting firm. I think he was kind of misled about the position he was taking. Although he was recruited by one of the firm's partners, he just hasn't really been happy there and I don't think they've been happy with his performance because of his lack of accounting background (which he was extremely upfront about). It's long and detailed, but this review might mean that FI is looking for a new job. Or not. We really don't know. I'm terrified. Vibes, please.

Well I think he should be honest with them about how he feels, IF they do say his performance is bad or anything negative about his accounting skills.  If he feels misled about the job description and was always up front about his lack of accounting, he should be honest about that.

Hopefully they just take the opportunity to recommend additional training or something else that will help him do his job better. FI was in a similar position at his first review. I hope everything works out!

Dani, that's exactly his gameplan: to be completely honest. He's been worried about it for a long time. He was made to think he'd be doing strictly IT work, but then they threw these financial audits that were about 80% accounting, 20% IT at him and he was kind of blindsided.

Has he ever had a review? Like a 3 month review? I find that usually 1 year reviews aren't so bad that they axe people. It might not be favorable, but if they really didn't think he could cut it, they wouldn't have kept him for a year.

So basically... he might want a new job, but I don't think he'll NEED a new job. Good luck!
