Seating

I am Having a small wedding 32 guests(includes children) though it is a year away and have not sent out invite, thus no rsvps yet. My venue gave me a special package price between an elopeing package and a wedding package, Max 35 guest including the groom and I.
There are only five tables which seat five people (25 spots) plus they have a lavish living room style which would make up for the lack of table seating. We are doing a buffet style dinner and the reception its self will be a cocktail style, the ceremony will have enough seating.
Okay you have the details on a scale of 1-10 how bad is this situation, if at all? I am torn due to the relaxed enviornment of the reception, but what if all guests do decide to come?

  • The food changes my answer.  Something I have to cut to eat?  No way no how, I won't eat off my lap.  Easy foods with no cutting required?  Not as big of a deal.

Are there side tables/coffee tables in the lounge area?  That changes it too, in my opinion.  Side tables or coffee tables make it much easier and more like sitting at a regular table.  Hell, that's how I eat dinner most nights :-P
  • Usually with a smaller guest list, there is a high 'yes' RSVP rate, since you are only inviting people who are very close to you. I would count on everyone coming.
  • Would the let you bring in an extra banquet table or somthing like that? I wouldn't want to eat a meal at a couch if I was your guest. Perhaps you could do an appitizer/cake/punch reception where a sit-down meal is not required?
  • Appetizers with cocktails or cake & punch reception would work without tables....but anything that I have to cut with the side of a fork that is more dense than cake might end up on the floor!

Can you bring in another table for these ten guests? I'm not a fan of having the guests sit at living room furniture for a buffet meal. Think about an hors d'oeuvres reception instead. Or find another venue.

  • Also, how do you determine who has to sit on the sofa and who actually gets a chair and table?  I think guests should be treated equally, and I wouldn't want to be banished to a sofa when I could be eating at a real table like everyone else.
  • This is a finger food buffet, and i was thinking the people at the sofas could be my cousins (younger guests) it is not a sit down styled dinner
