[QUOTE]If the stone is huge and/or flashy I would suggest not wearing it - probably too late now. DD's former boss asks people if they have dogs.  It's a perfectly legal question. Why does she ask?  If you have dog(s) you will not be hired. Dogs require someone to come and let them out and take care of them. If you have a cat it's ok, cats are independent.  She wants people to work 8:30 am to 8:30 PM EVERYNIGHT, eat lunch at your desk. Not kidding.   If you have a dog you'll need to go home to let it out.

<div>Wow. That sounds like one craptastic job. I'd purposely lie and say I had a dog so I wouldn't be hired. </div>

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Job Interview: Wear E-ring? :  Well I can't call them interviews because they're auditions. I'm a dancer so I never know what I could possibly be asked to do, like partnering with another dancer, where I would be afraid if I swung my hand and accidentally hit them in the face, or I could be doing a lot of floor work and end up hurting my hand.

</div><div>Yeah this doesn't count. You take your ring off for the same reason I take mine off for yoga class.

  • I understand why the question is being asked, but I too would wear it.  I've interviewed a million law student candidates and personally, never cared.  From my most recent experience on the job market (married), I think people related to me more.  This, of course, is specific to the environment.

I wouldn't lie about it though.  I'm not going to pretend not to be married to get a job.  At firms, I had lots of married women and men working right beside me on all-nighters, etc.
  • I can certainly see why it is a legitimate question.  I wear my ring, but deliberately don't mention being recently married in job interviews.  I know it shouldn't be a question, but I don't want people seeing 30ish newlywed and equating it to starting a family soon.

From casual conversations, I know that friends have had horrible times trying to get jobs while pregnant.  I don't want to touch that with a 10 foot pole.
  • Late to this, but I wear my "physical labour" wedding band for interviews, especially down here.
It seems to not be illegal to ask marital status, child plans, what your husband does etc. I certainly don't want them thinking I don't "need" the job/income.

  • Also chiming in to say that I remember discussions with the CSO in law school over whether women should wear wedding or engagement rings. I didn't pay attention since I was single, and I'm not job hunting, so I don't give it much thought. Even though it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of pregnancy, one woman in my class failed to get a post-grad job offer and the speculation was that it was due to her pregnancy the summer before 3L. She was #1 in our class and on law review, and clearly well-qualified. Many law firms are not as progressive as other employers.

Personally, I'd wear my engagement ring and if it kept me from getting a job, it would be a blessing in disguise.

I wore mine to my interview. The second interviewer was running late, and the interviewer who was there complimented it and we ended up talking about jewelry for 10 minutes, even after the second guy came in.

I got the job (software engineering). lol.
